Eileen came from Switzerland to Romania tracking back family roots and trails. Her grandfather started his love affair with the mountains in Fagaras, in Sambata and Vistisoarea area, following his passion later in life up in the Swiss mountains. Eileen wanted to see with her own eyes where it all began, so, together with her friend Yves, they asked us to plan a ten days trekking tour in Romania.
We started near Brasov, in Piatra Mare, and made our way towards Fagaras via Bucegi and Piatra Craiului. All along the way we visited sheep farms, we drank fresh water-buffalo milk, we enjoyed perfect weather and inspiring scenery.
The Fagaras ridge was the highlight of the tour, with demanding descents and ascents, with tricky technical sections, with majestic views. Apart from Balea, where the Transfagarasan road meets the high mountains, the trail takes its visitors on places where you cannot say if it’s 2013 or 1953, as the signs of civilizations are hardly to be seen – no cable-cars, no modern day facilities, no helicopters. Just you and the mountains, and your fellow trekkers. You soon don’t remember what day of the week or the month it is, and you don’t really care – isn’t it the best definition of a good holiday?

Nous avons fait un merveilleux trekking de 2 semaines grâce à Iulian Cozma et son équipe. Tout s’est très bien passé: précis tout en étant en même temps simple. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié l’écoute du guide (Horia) et l’adaptabilité du programme si notre niveau ne correspondait pas au programme prévu. Le trekking devait avant tout être du plaisir! Rencontres authentiques avec des bergers et le peuple roumain, paysages époustouflants, sensations fortes, moments pour se retrouver, tout cela était au rendez-vous! Une chose est sûre, nous recommandons vivement l’équipe de Iulian Cozma aux futurs explorateurs des merveilles rocheuses roumaines !
