Ski touring weekend for friends in Bucegi and Ciucas mountains

We started this ski touring weekend for friends back in 2012, and since then we are honoring this nice tradition every winter. During these eight years some people have left the group, others joined later, and some are part of the adventure from the very beginning. We’ve had brilliant powder snow, or spring slush, freezing cold in bitter blizzard or nice, warm temperatures while skiing among spring crocuses. In the last couple of years we’ve extended the event with some training days, either in the forests of Postavaru o… (>>>)

Japanese senior hikers on Moldoveanu Peak

More and more Asian tourists are coming to Romania, you see them roaming the historical cities of Brasov and Sibiu, or queuing for a visit at Bran Castle or Peles Castle. Up the mountains, however, it’s a rather different story. Or at least it was, till this summer, when a consistent group of Japanese hikers came to Romania for a longer tour, including the historical milestones mentioned above, but also trekking in Bucegi and Fagaras Mountains.

It was our job and honor to guide the group up to the highest point of Romania, on Moldov… (>>>)

Bucegi and Fagaras mountains with Italian hikers

We have planned with our Italian friends a week-long traverse of the Southern Carpathians in July 2018, starting in Sinaia, across Bucegi, than along the main section of the Fagaras ridge, from Sambata to Negoiu.

After a good start in Bucegi mountains, the weather turned for the bad when we moved to Fagaras mountains. Instead of the main ridge traverse, we opted for some easier treks in the lower altitudes, at Negoiu and Barcaciu, but also an attempt towards Moldoveanu Peak via Turnuri and Podragu. We may not have the joy of breathing t… (>>>)

Australian hikers in Romanian mountains

Hi Iulian, Back in Australia now after my European sojourn and a bit sadden to read the news about the unrest in Bucharest. I hope something positive comes from it all.

I want to thank you for not only organizing our tour but guiding it. After 40 odd of years of walking either solo, guiding or occasionally being guided, I guess I know a bit about what makes a good guide and I have to say you are one of the best I have come across.

Your attention to detail, organizational and leadership skills and ability to connect to us “oldies” ensured we had a te… (>>>)

Australian Wombats across the Romanian Carpathians

There are 20 years since I organise outdoor journeys in Romanian mountains and I can remember most of my guests. And for sure I’ll remember the Australian wombats, Geoff, Max and Colin, and of course I Kate. The original tour starts in Brasov and end almost in Sibiu, over 12 days of hiking in seven mountain ranges in South Carpathian mountain in Romania, kind of Haute route in Romania. But because of a very wet period in July, we had to reorganize our tour, but even despite the bad and wet weather, we succeed to traverse Piatra Mare mountain r… (>>>)

Bucegi traverse in Romania

We were visiting Romania with work, and bringing customers with us we wanted to do something on two days we had spare with our group of six. I rarely use a guide, but due to the timescale and wanting everything to go smoothly I found Iulian to assist. From the outset he was a true professional, and through emails back and forth we had a plan, and he’d arranged transfers from our hotel to the start of the walk. The night prior to our trip Iulian contacted me to say that 30cm of snow had fallen on the area of our planned route, and he suggested a… (>>>)

Bucegi mountains traverse, hiking in Romania

As usual, weather is weather, and in September sometime plans has to be changed because of HER. But based on our 20 years’ experience in organising hiking tours in Romanian mountains, weather is not an issue. The plan was to hike in Fagaras mountains, climbing Moldoveanu peak in two days hike, but just with few days before our trip, the first serious snow of this season came and we had to change our plans, because hiking has to be fun, not only climbing peaks! So, we moved to Bucegi mountains, where we had also snow, but a much friendly one. In … (>>>)

Escursioni in montagna e cultura nelle montagne Transilvania, Bucegi e Fagaras

Escursione in montagna in Romania, Bucegi e Fagaras

Hiking in Fagaras mountains climbing the highest peak in Romania

Thanks Iulian for this great trip! We had two fantastic days in the Fagaras mountains, and your expertise, knowledge and thoughtfulness added a lot to our fabulous experience. You set us up for a great challenge, that tested our stamina, but what a great tour we had with you and Nic 🙂 I highly recommend you for others seeking adventures in the Romanian mountains.
