Irish Globetrotters walk in Romanian mountains, Bucegi, Piatra Craiului

A thirteen strong group of us, all keen mountaineers, from various parts of Ireland have been for the past number of years, taking a week out in early September to trek another new destination for us across the mountains of Europe. This year it was to be the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania,Romania.

After some research earlier in the year it was decided, due to the limited time we had, seven days, that we should the services of a local guide. Iulian was to be our guide for the week.

The service that Iulian provided was second to none and I … (>>>)

Beautiful walking tour in Romania, spring flower tours

What I can say, was one of the nicest spring tour from weather and photography point of view. I was many times walking on this area, but I don’t remember so many flowers as I saw during this tour. And the same surprise for Inge from Belgium, who choose to have a holiday of almost two weeks in Romania. Inge, I think was worthed to choose Romania as your holiday destionation!

I think the photos can tell you more stories then me 😉 Enjoy the photos, Iulian, August 2013 (>>>)

Explore Romanian mountains, hiking and culture in Transylvanian Alps

June can be heaven or hell! Well not as hot as is in hell maybe, (I never been there. Yet) but sometime weather can be unfriendly! Of course, weather is not so important when you traverse half of the World for hiking in Transylvanian Alps, the important part is the equipment you bring with you for a tour like this, the adrenaline you have and the expectations. In small words, we get wet every day of our trip, but also we dried the equipment over the night, being ready for the next day adventure. And we enjoy every step we did in Bucegi and Fagaras m… (>>>)

Walking in Piatra Craiului National Park, Romania

With Iulian away to study the effect of the global warming on the ski touring activities in Switzerland, I had the honor to open the 2013 hiking season at mountainguide.ro. Together with Anne and Martha, we enjoyed mild weather and quiet trails in Bran County, through the Zărnești Gorges, the villages of Peștera, Șirnea, Fundata and Moeciu de Sus. As you can tell from the photos.

În lipsa lui Iulian, plecat în Elveția să studieze efectul încălzirii globale asupra schiului de tură în Elveția, mi-a revenit mie onoarea de a deschide sezo… (>>>)

Hiking in Carpathian garden, Romanian mountains

Sometimes less is more, even in mountaineering Every now and then we have guests that overestimate their abilities – or underestimate the difficulties of the Romanian trails high up in the mountains. The altitudes here are not as impressive as in the Alps or the Dolomite mountains (the main ridges are just above 2000m with highest peaks barely scratching the 2500m limit), but the vertical drops from the valleys to the main ridges are more or less similar, with equally demanding trails. We are proud to say that we never let that sp… (>>>)

Walking in countryside of Romania, trekking tours in Carpathian mountains

“Hello Iulian, I have been on your website several times and I must admit I am very amazed by the scenery of the Romanian countryside. It is awesome. I am from Canada and I am seriously thinking about taking a hiking trip to Romania with my whole family. Robin” Like this was starting my conversation with Robin from Canada, early on May 2012, about a walking tour in Romanian countryside! And they came in early October for a walking tour in Romania! As you may see on the photos below, we enjoyed a great weather during our walki… (>>>)

Walking tour in Carpathian mountains, Transylvanian hills

Was a walking tour in Piatra Craiului national park, and the mountains villages from the area of Bucegi mountains. Dr. Zauke came to Romania for an extended holiday, and also was coming to meet his daugther Claudia, who is  free travelling journeywoman, working as a roof maker. I meet the  this type of persons, free travelling journeyman, back in 2003, when I work with some of them at Valea Sambetei hut, in Fagaras mountains!

Weather was good, photos are nice, enjoy the photos! 🙂

Walking in Carpathian mountains, Romania

Autumn is almost here, but we still enjoy warm days and blue sky! The tour presented here was done on the famous area of Bran village, on the high hills from this area, on the region of Poarta, Simon and Moeciu de Sus mountain villages, and not the last in Piatra Craiului national park.

Moritz, a German young man, who’s working in Bucharest since 4 years, was visited by his mother, and he take the opportunity of beautiful autumn days to show to his mother the beauty of the Romanian country side.

As always, our host was mrs. Minerva, who d… (>>>)

Wild flowers walking tour in Romania, on Transylvanian hills

Traveling in the Bran region is always and I mean always, a beautiful experience. No matter how many times I have already been there, I just can’t get enough.

This time, walking with Rhys and Alexandra from Australia, we were amazed of how beautiful are the flowers, the spontaneous flora of this place. We were also very happy to walk thru virgin forests sections where anyone would expect at any time to meet the famous romanian bear, at any turn.

For me was a real pleasure to see their faces in the pine forest and while admiring all the p… (>>>)

Walking tour in rainy but beautiful Romania

You’d say rain is a major downer when going for a walking trip. Who wouldn’t prefer a nice, sunny, warm day on the trails instead of marching around, across or simply through muddy puddles, with rain falls ranging from light drizzles to heavy hail, with constantly wet shoes, clothes, etc.

Still, if you love mountains, you enjoy them no matter how the weather is. That’s exactly what we did, in the select company of seven Swedish guests that we guided through Bucegi mountains from Sinaia to Moeciu, than across Bran Cou… (>>>)
