Ski touring family trip in Transylvanian Alps, Romania

This is happening when you son study medicine in Cluj Napoca University: you go to visit him, but you bring your ski touring gear with you, because are some nice mountains and powder to ski! And this Octavian and Bettina did, they came for a ski tour in Fagaras and Bucegi montains, one of the best and most accessible mountains for ski touring in Romania. Even if the weather at Balea lake was a truly winter weather, cold and wind storms, we enjoyed blue sky and powder snow during our trips in Bucegi mountains.

Back Country skiing in Bran Country, Romania

The rolling hills of the Bran Country are a perfect place for hiking and mountain biking tours for most of the year, but they are also a brilliant destination for ski shoeing or, when snow allows it, for some incredible Back Country skiing days.

The mountain villages of Simon, Magura, Pestera and Sirnea, the lower altitude trails of the Piatra Craiului National Park and the Bucegi Natural Park were the scenery in which we thoroughly enjoyed five days of great outdoors.

Mystic forests, traditional wooden houses, friendly people, frie… (>>>)

4 days ski touring in Bucegi mountains

Romanian mountains can be a destinations for short trips, hiking, walking, mountain biking, and why not, for ski touring. With a lot of experience and a good logistic, but off course, with good weather and snow conditions, we enjoyed 4 days of ski touring in Bucegi mountains, on last March. I meet Nicolas many years ago, he’s now based in France, but he still love Carpathian mountains, and with each occasion he share his love with his friends in France. Yes, I know, the French have the Alps, and many other impressive and well know mountain … (>>>)

Simple: powder splitboarding in Carpathian mountains

At the beginning of our tour, Bucegi mountains were just a big desert, without sand, sorry, snow! But at least was blue sky!

Second day, the same blue sky, but we manage to find some nice powder for some long lines! Well, then we had a situation, meaning a snow storm came over Bucegi, and true winter finally arrived in Carpathian mountains. After we traverse Dudele mountains, from Bucegi to upper parts of Moeciu de Sus mountain village, in true snow storm, we had a really big surprise: at least 50-70 cm of fresh powder snow, untouched, was th… (>>>)

Exploring Romania, walking, culture, enjoy tasty food

A conversation with a Romanian taxi driver in London a few years ago put Romania on my travel radar. He enthusiastically described the beautiful scenery and many hiking options available in his home country. From the beginning of our correspondence with Iulian, he was prompt and efficient in dealing with our enquiries which gave us confidence in his professionalism. The outstanding feature of Iulian’s company is that it genuinely offers tours which are tailored to the specific needs of the group and the itinerary is flexibl… (>>>)

Our Romanian Bike Trip, Israeli mountain bikers

We are 4 Israeli Bikers who have been on two previous European Bike Trips. We have been riding for 15 years and have a lot of experience. But this last week exceeded it all by far. From the minute that we were met at the airport until the last drop off back at the airport, a week later, it was all about personal attention, responsibility and true caring that was displayed by our amazing guide Horia. Behind the scenes a lot was going on in the logistics department but up front it as all about great food, superb riding and a lot of fun. We truly learnt … (>>>)

Israeli mountain bikers in Bucegi Mountains

The Israeli mountain bikers seem generally reluctant to go for a full-mountain experience. Lacking experience in tackling long ascents and natural mountain trails, they more often than not opt for “safer” programs, with more cable car lifts, minibus transfers, fewer hours on the trails, etc.

Ronnen, Shane, Motti and Zeev where ready to get out of their comfort zone, opting for our true mountain Bucegi Circuit mtb tour. And they’ve got an experience they will brag about for years to come. A true mountain biking e… (>>>)

Cross country skiing in Transylvanian Alps

Cross country skiing in Romania, Bucegi mountains

I did a lot of ski tours in Romanian Carpathians, but now is time to explore a new type of skiing, cross country skiing, with a very nice group of French skiers! I was surprised how light and how strong were the skis, how fast you can climb, and how hard is to ski. But all in one was fun and a nice week.

Not too much snow indeed, but for our skis, the snow was just enough and we were able to traverse Bucegi mountains, from Sinaia to Moeciu de Sus mountain village.

The second part of our trip was planed in Piatra Craiului national park, but instead skiin… (>>>)

Bucegi traversing, Old border hiking

When a Australian couple want to go home, they still travel. This was doing Zac and his friends, at the end of three years stay in UK. They were going home travelling from country to country, and they stop for few days hiking in Bucegi mountains, South East of Transylvania. Weather was fantastic, and our traverse of Bucegi was done smoothly and dry! Enjoy the photos, Iulian, Sept 2016
