Winter touring in magical Transylvania

The trails we do hike tours, mountain biking adventures or trail running trips for three seasons along the year suffer a magical transformation during the winter months. No flocks of sheep or scattered cows grazing on the vast pastures, no dogs roaming around the deserted farms, nothing to disturb a frozen landscape. Everything comes to a stand still, as if mesmerized by the truly unique landscape.

If you are lucky, as Philippa and David were, to have your trip programmed just when some fresh snow is coming, it gets even better. Magical.

The trails in the Bran Country are a wonderful place, every season, every month, every day of the year. Come see it for yourselves!

Testimonial:

We are two keen, but not super-fit walkers, who are just hitting their 60s. We spent 8 days in Romania under the guidance of Iulian and his team. Everything was tailored to our capabilities and interests and we recommend this excellent company without reservation. The original plan had been for us to walk into the Bucegi mountains and stay in a mountain hut for two nights. Before the ascent, Horia (our superb guide) took us on local, quite tough walks and it became obvious that the mountain climb would not be suitable for us. So the plan was changed and we spent 2 nights and 3 days walking in the idyllic Praia Craiului mountains staying in local village houses, looked after by our generous and warm hostesses. We walked in pristine snow without meeting anyone except the occasional farmer going to check his livestock in remote huts. My advice is to go to Romania before it changes and to go with Iulian’s excellent company.

We stayed two nights in Sibiu and one in Brasov in perfect, unpretentious hotels in the center of the cities. On our last night, we were invited to entertained by Horia in a restaurant of our choosing in Brasov. A generous end to a delightful and exciting holiday which stretched us physically and yet was tailored to our (mine really) capabilities.

We are already planning a return trip to the mountains in the early summer.
