Snowshoeing in Bran Country, Transylvania

Five friends from London came to Romania this winter for a snowshoeing trip across the hills and glens of the Bran Country. Conditions varied from cold winter to warm spring, with fresh snow or pleasant sunshine, with a little bit of mud added to mix. Fortunately no rain, but – we will say it over and over again, as it is simply very trye – there is no such thing as bad weather in the mountains. Just bad clothing.

Everyone’s photo camera was put to good use and abuse, as you can see from the gallery below. Be it a smartphone, a … (>>>)

Hiking and photo tour in Fagaras Mountains

There is a good number of people that come to Romania not because they were lured in by the famous landscape beauty, the gorgeous mountains or the any other world renown tourist attractions. The reasoning is pretty mundane: a business trip, a short or long term contract with a locally based company, a friend’s wedding, etc. Most often than not, people come back to Romania to trace back family roots, to discover the world were their parents or ancestors came into being and developed as individuals, before going to discover and con… (>>>)

Ski touring trip in Carpathian mountains, Romania

Was a group of friends and colleagues from university,  who usually enjoy skiing in The Alps, but they decide to see how are the Carpathian mountains in winter time. So, last February we enjoy a ski trip in Bucegi and Fagaras mountains, on perfect sunny days and powder snow! As always, we were almost the only skiers in both areas, and this was one of the nicest part! Bucegi mountains were great, our hosts Doina and Mircea, as always, very charming and welcoming people!

At Balea lake sky was blue, snow was as good as we wish, so the trip was jus… (>>>)

Recharging batteries on a hiking weekend in Bucegi and Bran Country

Every now and then (and there is quite a big gap between now and then) we get the chance to hike with fellow Romanians. It gets a little bit weird in the beginning, as we are much more used to speak English than Romanian, but we adapt easy to any situation :).

Hikers tend to be friendly, open minded people, with plenty of stories to share. This time was no different, and the ever changing scenery of the Bran Country and the Bucegi Natural Park can only  add to the atmosphere. Starting in a green and sunny Moeciu de Sus, going up to the last patches o… (>>>)

Two day trips in Romania

I was in Brasov for a business trip and decided to arrive a few days early to see a bit of the country side. Horia and Iulian were professional, flexible and willing to accommodate our schedules. We had 2 days and wanted to spend a day of biking and a day of hiking. They had no issue working with us to find the right combination of activity. They were flexible before and during the days to adjust based on weather, conditions and our desires. After a day of hiking Horia even suggested we make an unscheduled stop by Bran Castle. We had 2 awesome days … (>>>)

Active holiday in Romania, family hiking in Romanian Carpathians

They choose to spent a 3 weeks holiday in Romania, combining walking in the mountains with cultural visits and sitting in the sun. Was middle of August when we start the trip, start of September when we finish 🙂 So I was happy to organize for those two German families a trip as they wish, starting with Ocna Sibiului, Barcaciu hut in Fagaras mountains, Salvamont hut in Bucegi mountains, Sinaia, Sighisoara and Brasov cities, Viscri and Balea Lake tourist destinations and not the last, Poarta and Moeciu de Sus mountain villages. The trip we… (>>>)

Mountain biking in Brasov city area and Bucegi mountains

If there is something unique about mountain biking in Brasov, Romania, it’s the diversity of landscape and trails you can experience in a relatively small area. It’s always a pleasure to see the excitement of our guests when they witness with their own eyes the smooth transition from forest to alpine teritory, from limestone to conglomerate rock formations, from busy mountain resorts to quiet pastures. from high ridges down to mountain gorges.

Bucegi Circuit, our most popular six-days mountain biking tour, offers g… (>>>)

Walking tour in Romania, Bran county tour

Danes have an average of 5 to 6 weeks of holidays every year, so no wonder they are a very wanderous kind of people. Denmark being a relatively small country, the Danes usually travel abroad to follow their typical North-European appetite for outdoor activities.

Torben and Jesper chose the Bran County in Romania for their hiking trip in April 2015, hoping for some nice spring weather and fresh-green landscape. It was spring indeed, but the weather was rather challenging, keeping us at lower altitudes to avoid the unexpected snow up on … (>>>)

Fagaras mountains, Israeli hikers in Romania

It took them more than two years of preparations before actually arriving to Romania, but the wait was totally worth the while. Eran, Omer and their father Eli came to Romania to enjoy the lush forests, the mountain rivers and lakes: views that are available in very limited supply in Israel.

We walked the trails of Bucegi, Piatra Craiului, Bran County, Fagaras Mountains. We weren’t the fastest, nor the more spirited of the trekkers – but we were definitely taking the best brakes. Fresh made coffee (thanks Omer), home made … (>>>)

Climbing highest peak in Romania, rhododendron tour in Fagaras mountains

An unusually crowded Podragu hut welcomed us mid-June for a three days escape up on the Fagaras Ridge. Together with Marga and Thomas we climbed up to Moldoveanu Peak, marching through patches of blooming rhododendrons, enjoying some marvelous views and nice weather. It was a surprise to see so many trekkers up the mountain so early in the season. Most of them were from outside Romania, coming from France, Belgium, The Czech Republic, Israel. Apart from the staff working at the Podragu hut and some shepherds scattered along the trail… (>>>)
