Falling in love with the Carpathians

Thank you Horia and Iulian for two awesome days in Brasov and Piatra Craiului National Park! When I arrived in Rumania with my car and my bike the only thing I was sure about was that I want to explore some parts of the Carpathians. After a challenging experience on my own I decided on Monday afternoon to ask Iulian to guide me for the next two days: Thursday and Wednesday. I was very lucky! Iulian and Horia made it very spontaneously possible to ride some excellent trails and to have two outstanding days around Brasov! Horia was choosing perf… (>>>)

Two day trips in Romania

I was in Brasov for a business trip and decided to arrive a few days early to see a bit of the country side. Horia and Iulian were professional, flexible and willing to accommodate our schedules. We had 2 days and wanted to spend a day of biking and a day of hiking. They had no issue working with us to find the right combination of activity. They were flexible before and during the days to adjust based on weather, conditions and our desires. After a day of hiking Horia even suggested we make an unscheduled stop by Bran Castle. We had 2 awesome days … (>>>)

Out of the comfort zone, mountain biking in Transylvania, Romania

This week was one of a different kind. Maybe it wasn’t the perfect weather for mountain biking but it was perfect to create memories that will last. Cold, snow technical problems… We had it all. That was the difficult part but – and there is a big BUT. In the same time with giving us trouble all this difficulties gave us also the chance to stand and deal with ourselves and nature. The wheels were spinning and the weather too. From sun to rain. From rain to snow. Again Sun with teeth and again clouds. The pedals are still p… (>>>)

Single trail mtb in the mountains around Brasov City, Romania

We’ve been biking with our Swedish friends on the trails around Brasov for three years now and it just keeps getting better. The boys are a joy to watch, a continuous source of inspiration and awe. Their bmx origin is pretty obvious when you see them biking, and the combination of pure biking skills with a proper mountain-trail equipment and scenery simply works wonders.

For us it’s also a perfect opportunity not just to learn, but also to search for new trails. And we are happy to inform you that the possibilities are pretty … (>>>)

Mountain biking on Bran Country trails, Transylvania, Romania

Fun in the mud on Bran Country trails

Unexpected familiar weather was waiting Martin, Pat and Ryan in Brasov when they came to Romania for a mountain bike tour in the Bran Country. Based in Amsterdam and London, the three friends were accustomed to cycle in wet conditions. Definitely more than I am, as the weather around here gives you most of the time the freedom to get picky – “it’s kind of cloudy, I think I will stay home today”.

We didn’t have that option with our tour, so we headed joyfully into what the s… (>>>)

Walking on the borders of old empires

The spectacular mountain ridges of the South Carpathian Mountains, stretching from East to West on the Southern limit of Transylvania, Romania, marked the historical border between the Central European great powers and the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire.

Physical borders, as well as empires, are a thing of the past. Cultural and historical heritage, though, are still present. The German order and efficiency is nicely completed by the Oriental relaxed attitude. You can see it in the way the houses are built, streets aligned, public se… (>>>)

Snow walking in Transylvania

It was freezing cold and pouring with rain the day I met Antonia and Annabel in the city center of Brasov. We were to discuss about our scheduled trekking tour up in the Carpathian Mountains and the weather wasn’t looking very promising.

I was in for a nice surprise. The two former Oxford students would not be put off by a few drops of rain, even if they hoped for a nice, warm, sunny autumn – as anyone would expect for an early October in Romania. It’s true that there weren’t just a few drops, but quite plenty, and not r… (>>>)

Expert mountain biking tour in Romania, South East of Transylvania

Performance… About Sigge and Mike I’ve heard last year. They were described as mountainbikers with very good tehnical skills so that made me pretty much eager to meet them. And I just say this: It all worthed. This year they came with Thomas  and we rode the Carpathian Expert Ride wich is the most difficult tour offered by MTBtours.ro – and Mountainguide.ro in Romania at this point. I had big expectations from the whole trip but I have to confess: the tour and the way of riding was so much beyond my dreams.

With this team it was alway… (>>>)

All-mountain mountain biking weekend in Postavaru and Piatra Craiului mountains, Romania

Two days of thrilling riding on the natural bike park called Postavaru Mountain and across the gorgeous beauties of Piatra Craiului Mountains, with Sigge and Arnon. Great weather, challenging trails, tones of adrenaline. Last but not least, a great company. What more does one need for a perfect weekend out in the wild?

As always, we feel privileged to live in a place like Brasov, with easy access to beautiful mountains, superb scenery and amazing trails.

Ski touring in Poiana Brasov ski resort in Romania

Well, I can start this snow report very simple. We were doing some ski tours on a ski resort, but the reality is coming when we saw how much snow was near the slopes or on the forest. And snow start to be bigger and bigger.

After a hiking, biking and walking  summer season, when sometime we pray for a rain, the winter start without big promises for our 100 mm wide skis. But I was thinking: well, Summer was great, no rain, very nice weather, so I enjoy it, then winter have to be beautiful, if you can say beautiful when you speak about winter 😉 For my fe… (>>>)
