Hiking tours in Romania, Fagaras mountains

Liliana is a Romanian born lady, living in Italy since many years, and this summer she try to organise a hiking tour in Romanian mountains, for a group of Italian and Dutch friends. Unfortunately because of the pandemic situation the tour was cancel, but Liliana still want to enjoy the beauty of the Carpathian Mountains.

Both our tours were in Fagaras mountains, end of June, for the Rododendron mountain flowers, and we choose (as always) Barcaciu hut area in West of Fagaras. Outstanding weather, flowers, food and company, thanks to Pe… (>>>)

Bucegi and Fagaras mountains with Italian hikers

We have planned with our Italian friends a week-long traverse of the Southern Carpathians in July 2018, starting in Sinaia, across Bucegi, than along the main section of the Fagaras ridge, from Sambata to Negoiu.

After a good start in Bucegi mountains, the weather turned for the bad when we moved to Fagaras mountains. Instead of the main ridge traverse, we opted for some easier treks in the lower altitudes, at Negoiu and Barcaciu, but also an attempt towards Moldoveanu Peak via Turnuri and Podragu. We may not have the joy of breathing t… (>>>)

Australian hikers in Romanian mountains

Hi Iulian, Back in Australia now after my European sojourn and a bit sadden to read the news about the unrest in Bucharest. I hope something positive comes from it all.

I want to thank you for not only organizing our tour but guiding it. After 40 odd of years of walking either solo, guiding or occasionally being guided, I guess I know a bit about what makes a good guide and I have to say you are one of the best I have come across.

Your attention to detail, organizational and leadership skills and ability to connect to us “oldies” ensured we had a te… (>>>)

Hiking and photo tour in Fagaras Mountains

There is a good number of people that come to Romania not because they were lured in by the famous landscape beauty, the gorgeous mountains or the any other world renown tourist attractions. The reasoning is pretty mundane: a business trip, a short or long term contract with a locally based company, a friend’s wedding, etc. Most often than not, people come back to Romania to trace back family roots, to discover the world were their parents or ancestors came into being and developed as individuals, before going to discover and con… (>>>)

My dad loved the Carpathian mountains – Belgium hikers in Romania

Wanting to learn more about the region my father grew up, I travelled once more to Transylvania, this time with my partner who loves mountains and adventures. Since it was the first time for me to do a hike, I contacted Iulian and asked for help. We agreed on a 3-day trip in the Făgăraș Mountains.

We spend 10 days in Transylvania by ourself with family and friends from Boița. Then the big day of departure in the mountains was there…

Horia picked us up in Boița and we went to Avrig where we left the car and started to climb up to Cabana Bârcaciu. G… (>>>)

Hiking in Romania, Fagaras mountains from Piatra Craiului to Suru

Eileen and Yves. We “know” them since three summers, when we were first time contacted by Eileen mother, Christine, born in Brasov city and Fagaras mountain lover. Her father was bringing her to Fagaras mountains, Transylvanian Alps quite often, and also Eileen told me about her talks with her grand father about this mountains.

On 2013 they were hiking from Brasov to almost Olt valley, on different mountain ranges, accompanied by my colleague Mihai. On 2014 they came for a mountain biking tour with Horia, and they ende… (>>>)

Hiking Fagaras main ridge, Romanian mountains – meeting high expectations

Things looked pretty difficult when Linda told me, upon arrival, that this trip to Romania was presented to her as “the best hiking trip one can have””. Not before mentioning, as a side note, that she had traveled across the continents, seeing most the world known attractions around the globe :-). In between trips, she was living in a quiet island, famous around the world for harbouring the capital city of British Columbia, Canada.

That’s what I’d call high expectations, I told myself while driving t… (>>>)

Ski touring experience in Romanian mountains

Ski touring experience in Romanian mountains

For Monika was the 6th ot 7th time in Romanian mountains, and the 3rd for ski touring. And this year she came with a group of 4 friends for one week ski touring in Bucegi and Fagaras mountains.

Our plans were a little bit changed by the snow conditions, quite poor for begin of February, but weather was just perfect, and at least we can enjoy the views 🙂

Originally we were planning to ski in Bucegi mountains and in West of Fagaras, at Barcaciu chalet. But taking in consideration the snow conditions we went at Balea lake, at least we start of skis in … (>>>)

Fagaras mountains, Israeli hikers in Romania

It took them more than two years of preparations before actually arriving to Romania, but the wait was totally worth the while. Eran, Omer and their father Eli came to Romania to enjoy the lush forests, the mountain rivers and lakes: views that are available in very limited supply in Israel.

We walked the trails of Bucegi, Piatra Craiului, Bran County, Fagaras Mountains. We weren’t the fastest, nor the more spirited of the trekkers – but we were definitely taking the best brakes. Fresh made coffee (thanks Omer), home made … (>>>)
