Mountain biking Romania, Bucegi Circuit with an old Cannondale Lefty bike

Christian came to Romania, from Switzerland, with an old Cannondale bike, hand made in USA, to do our Bucegi Circuit, a six-days mountain biking tour. It was also supposed to be a retiring party for the old bike, to be replaced by a brand new 27.5 full suspension bike.

And a party it was, with perfect weather, perfect trails, relaxed atmosphere – hand made in Romania, by mtbtours.ro and mountainguide.ro  🙂

Mountain biking Romania, Ciucas, Bucegi and Piatra Craiului national park

Two words come to mind when remembering our six days expert mountain biking trip we organized for four Austrian riders. Brutal und Total. I kept hearing those two words day after day, trail after trail, uphill after uphill and descent after descent. I am not a German language expert, but it was pretty obvious our friends were really excited by their mountain biking experience in the Transylvanian Carpathian Mountains.

We covered five different mountains – Ciucaș, Grohotișului, Baiului, Bucegi and Piatra Craiului – t… (>>>)

Discovering the South-East Transylvania on mountain bike

The Saxon villages, the Bran Country, the Piatra Craiului National Park: three hotspots of Transylvanian tourism can be nicely covered in a rather relaxed three days mtb program, as showed by our recent trip with Eva and Christian this June.

The visit at Viscri fortified church, the mtb ride on the bike trails built along the mild slopes of the Transylvanian hills, through forests and meadows, the exquisite accommodation at Casa cu Zorele, the impressive Zarnesti Gorges and the imposing Piatra Craiului National Park, the scenic vi… (>>>)

Four seasons in six days of mtb in Romania

Ausrine, Karolis, Aurimas și Tadas drove 1500km from Lithuania to Romania with four bikes on the rooftop of their car, hoping for some unforgettable mountain biking experiences in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains, near Brașov City. And that’s precisely what they’ve got.

We rode our bikes together on nicely flowing trails and technical single tracks, on long climbs and endless descents, through forests an pastures, over roots and rocks. We enjoyed some really unusual weather, going through sun, rain, clouds, win… (>>>)

VTT en Roumanie: the French connection is open

Word about our mtb tours in the Carpathian mountains, Transylvania, is constantly spreading. Bikers from Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, UK, Sweden are coming here for a few good years now, and it was about time for the French mountain bikers to show up.

Jean and Nelly flew over from Toulouse, searching for some nice single trails, single track, all-mountain type biking to test their brand new 27.5 full-suspension bikes. And that’s precisely what they’ve found, along with gorgeous scenery, delicious food, perfe… (>>>)

Out of the comfort zone, mountain biking in Transylvania, Romania

This week was one of a different kind. Maybe it wasn’t the perfect weather for mountain biking but it was perfect to create memories that will last. Cold, snow technical problems… We had it all. That was the difficult part but – and there is a big BUT. In the same time with giving us trouble all this difficulties gave us also the chance to stand and deal with ourselves and nature. The wheels were spinning and the weather too. From sun to rain. From rain to snow. Again Sun with teeth and again clouds. The pedals are still p… (>>>)

Mtb experience in Romania, Brasov area mountains

One of the many reasons to enjoy very much what we are doing is the chance to meet interesting and diverse people. Everybody we hike/bike/ski with, shares the same love for the mountains, still each group remains unique in its own way.

The last biking group we had was from Germany. It was surprising to see their equipment, following a week of biking with a group of Swedes pretty much up to date with everything related to mountain biking gear – and not just gear. Our four German friends were made from a different fabric: more than 10 yea… (>>>)

Single trail mtb in the mountains around Brasov City, Romania

We’ve been biking with our Swedish friends on the trails around Brasov for three years now and it just keeps getting better. The boys are a joy to watch, a continuous source of inspiration and awe. Their bmx origin is pretty obvious when you see them biking, and the combination of pure biking skills with a proper mountain-trail equipment and scenery simply works wonders.

For us it’s also a perfect opportunity not just to learn, but also to search for new trails. And we are happy to inform you that the possibilities are pretty … (>>>)

Mountain biking on Bran Country trails, Transylvania, Romania

Fun in the mud on Bran Country trails

Unexpected familiar weather was waiting Martin, Pat and Ryan in Brasov when they came to Romania for a mountain bike tour in the Bran Country. Based in Amsterdam and London, the three friends were accustomed to cycle in wet conditions. Definitely more than I am, as the weather around here gives you most of the time the freedom to get picky – “it’s kind of cloudy, I think I will stay home today”.

We didn’t have that option with our tour, so we headed joyfully into what the s… (>>>)

Mountain biking in Transylvania, Saxon villages

Mountain biking in Transylvania, Saxon villages

Our first mtb tour of the 2014 season was scheduled just before Easter. A very sunny and warm beginning of April, coming after an equally warm and dry winter, gave as hopes for a perfect biking weather during our five days ride with Eileen and Yves.

Two days before starting the tour, winter finally came to our mountains. Not the best circumstances for a bike tour. Keeping our rides at lower altitudes, we fought our way through some wet snow and plenty of rain before switching for a day of ski-touring up in Poiana Brașov resort.

Then we moved … (>>>)
