Hiking in Fagaras Mountains, Romania, Moldoveanu Peak

Manfred’s father is from Romania, from a Transylvanian village in the Hartibaci valley. Manfred has been to visit his grandparents in Romania several times and now he has decided to climb the highest peak in the Romanian Carpathians, Moldoveanu, in June 2022.

June can be a bad month for mountain hiking, it can rain, even snow, but we were lucky, having a beautiful weather during the 3 days we spent together at Cabana Podragu.

We climbed the Arpas valley, together with Dani from Sibiu, and the donkeys carrying supplies to the Turn… (>>>)

Hiking with dear friends in the Fagaras Mountains, summer 2022

With Helmut and Andi, the two brothers from Arad, who emigrated many years ago to Germany, and their gang of friends, we went to the mountains of Romania twice, to Piatra Craiului and Bucegi, as well as to the Macin mountains and the Danube Delta. And now we have chosen together the Fagaras mountains.

Our tour started at the Barcaciu hut, where the hutkeepers welcomed us as guests. We spent the next 2 nights at the newly renovated Negoiu hut (hats off for what you did there Marian and Roxana), climbing the Fagaras ridge, and enjoying Transy… (>>>)

Family Hiking in the countryside of Bran mountain village

Family Hiking in the countryside of Bran mountain village

In the spring of 2022, between Covid and the war in Ukraine, I had the pleasure to organize a hiking tour for a grandfather Johannes, and his grandson Adrian, both from Germany.

Johannes had been to Romania about 30 years ago, like any young Neamt who wanted to explore Eastern Europe.

Then he walked the ridge of the Piatra Craiului, now we enjoyed walking at the base of the ridge, different age, different desires.

Our trek was a classic one, on foot through the country of Bran, from village to village, in a May with good weather, flowers and l… (>>>)

Hiking in Fagaras mountains Romania

We went on a 3 day hike with Iulian to Moldoveanu Peak in September 2021 and we had the best time! Lots of fun conversation and laughs. Iulian is very knowledgeable and has lots of interesting stories. We also felt incredibly safe with Iulian. He is very experienced and we had every confidence that he would get us to the top of Moldoveanu Peak! He was very organised and made the 3 day hiking experience incredibly easy for us….well as easy as climbing a 2544m mountain can be! It rained very heavily on the first day and Iulian was amazing at ensur… (>>>)

Testimonial Louise Shaxson, walking family tour in Romania

But we are full of memories of Romania and the wonderful time we had, so expertly guided by you.  I’d seen the photos but hadn’t appreciated the big skies and enormous trees: those are the two images that have really stuck with me.  And the food!  That was all such a treat.  Thanks for all the effort you put into making it such a spectacular trip for all of us, for keeping that dog away from us, for the debates about heating, Brexit and Cecil Rhodes, for ensuring that Nick stayed warm (and stylish) and for generally looking after … (>>>)

Walking tour in Romanian countryside

Nick hiked in Romania back on 2008 and 2009. And since then we were from time to time in contact, even meeting for a drink in London some years ago. And on 2019 we start to plan another tour, this time for Nick, Louise and the girls!

But the Covid change our plans and we delayed the tour for more than a year! But the wait was well worth it, because the tour was a 4 season tour: we had summer, autumn and winter weather, and all during one week!

The tour start in Sinaia and Predeal, lovely forest walks, then we moved to Brasov city back garden in Bran coun… (>>>)

Family hiking in Romania, South Carpathian Mountains

As most of the requests, the one I received from Bernhard was simple: I would like to hike in Romania with my daughter, kind of gift for her 18 years old birthday! Is not first time when parents are coming with kids to hike in Romania, as presents for any type of anniversary, but each time is special! The interest of a young person just to go hiking on another country, with one of the parents, surprise me each time! And this time I choose for them Bucegi and Fagaras mountains, the most representatives mountain ranges in Romanian Carpathian.

Walking in Romania, Transylvania

Any tour in Romania must include a walking tour, especially when you are coming from an island as Tenerife!

The walks were mainly on the beautiful Transylvanian forests, in Sinaia, Brasov and Zarnesti areas. We understand that most of the groups we’re guiding, are interested in nature that is different than in the home countries. And we were right in most of the situations!

The best views were during our walk in Postavaru range near Brasov city. Beautiful forest, colours, and the views over North of Bucegi mountains were breath … (>>>)
