Family Hiking in the countryside of Bran mountain village

Family Hiking in the countryside of Bran mountain village

In the spring of 2022, between Covid and the war in Ukraine, I had the pleasure to organize a hiking tour for a grandfather Johannes, and his grandson Adrian, both from Germany.

Johannes had been to Romania about 30 years ago, like any young Neamt who wanted to explore Eastern Europe.

Then he walked the ridge of the Piatra Craiului, now we enjoyed walking at the base of the ridge, different age, different desires.

Our trek was a classic one, on foot through the country of Bran, from village to village, in a May with good weather, flowers and l… (>>>)

Australian hikers in Romanian mountains

Hi Iulian, Back in Australia now after my European sojourn and a bit sadden to read the news about the unrest in Bucharest. I hope something positive comes from it all.

I want to thank you for not only organizing our tour but guiding it. After 40 odd of years of walking either solo, guiding or occasionally being guided, I guess I know a bit about what makes a good guide and I have to say you are one of the best I have come across.

Your attention to detail, organizational and leadership skills and ability to connect to us “oldies” ensured we had a te… (>>>)

Australian Wombats across the Romanian Carpathians

There are 20 years since I organise outdoor journeys in Romanian mountains and I can remember most of my guests. And for sure I’ll remember the Australian wombats, Geoff, Max and Colin, and of course I Kate. The original tour starts in Brasov and end almost in Sibiu, over 12 days of hiking in seven mountain ranges in South Carpathian mountain in Romania, kind of Haute route in Romania. But because of a very wet period in July, we had to reorganize our tour, but even despite the bad and wet weather, we succeed to traverse Piatra Mare mountain r… (>>>)

Magical snowshoeing tour in Transylvanian mountains

We are two keen, but not super-fit walkers, who are just hitting their 60s. We spent 8 days in Romania under the guidance of Iulian and his team. Everything was tailored to our capabilities and interests and we recommend this excellent company without reservation. The original plan had been for us to walk into the Bucegi mountains and stay in a mountain hut for two nights. Before the ascent, Horia (our superb guide) took us on local, quite tough walks and it became obvious that the mountain climb would not be suitable for us. So the plan wa… (>>>)

Cross country skiing in Romania, Bucegi mountains

I did a lot of ski tours in Romanian Carpathians, but now is time to explore a new type of skiing, cross country skiing, with a very nice group of French skiers! I was surprised how light and how strong were the skis, how fast you can climb, and how hard is to ski. But all in one was fun and a nice week.

Not too much snow indeed, but for our skis, the snow was just enough and we were able to traverse Bucegi mountains, from Sinaia to Moeciu de Sus mountain village.

The second part of our trip was planed in Piatra Craiului national park, but instead skiin… (>>>)

The high trails of the Carpathians on mountain bike

We ended a long and consistent season of mountain biking with an extended Transylvanian Alps tour, together with a cheerful group of Belgian bikers. We rode across Ciucas Mountains, Grohotisului and Baiului Mountains, the mighty Bucegi Massif, and the impressive Piatra Craiului.

Long ascents, even longer descents, endless trails. Mountain biking as it should be. Come and taste it for yourself in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains! Horia, September 2016(>>>)

Walking holiday in Transylvania, the Italian story

From time to time, some Italian mountain clubs are comin to Romania for a trip. I think they want to compare the Carpathian mountains with the Dolomiti or The Alps, and for most of them, the surprise is a lovely one!

This summer, a group of walkers from CAI Mirano Venetia, came one week tour, in middle of July, one of the hottest months from summer of 2016. We enjoyed good weather in Bucegi, Piatra Craiului national park and the high hills of Rucar Bran pass, but also the delicious food from our hosts in the mountains.

We hiked the hills and mead… (>>>)

Luxembourger group enjoying Romanian mountains

We were a group of 6  friends from Luxembourg that originally were very reluctant to go hiking in Roumania.  But thanks to Julian, our guide, we finally had a wonderful time in the Carpathians Mountains.  Julian went out of his way to please us with our  different needs.  He was flexible enough with  any change of program and destination.  Thanks to him,  with  his  perfect knowledge of the country, we were able to fully admire the country-side, in all its beauty.  Not only were we pleasantly surprised  by the landscape, but  also the cl… (>>>)
