Winter touring in magical Transylvania

The trails we do hike tours, mountain biking adventures or trail running trips for three seasons along the year suffer a magical transformation during the winter months. No flocks of sheep or scattered cows grazing on the vast pastures, no dogs roaming around the deserted farms, nothing to disturb a frozen landscape. Everything comes to a stand still, as if mesmerized by the truly unique landscape.

If you are lucky, as Philippa and David were, to have your trip programmed just when some fresh snow is coming, it gets even better. … (>>>)

Snowshoeing in Bran Country, Transylvania

Five friends from London came to Romania this winter for a snowshoeing trip across the hills and glens of the Bran Country. Conditions varied from cold winter to warm spring, with fresh snow or pleasant sunshine, with a little bit of mud added to mix. Fortunately no rain, but – we will say it over and over again, as it is simply very trye – there is no such thing as bad weather in the mountains. Just bad clothing.

Everyone’s photo camera was put to good use and abuse, as you can see from the gallery below. Be it a smartphone, a … (>>>)

Exploring Transylvanian mountains, Bucegi and Piatra Craiului

Was the first snow from this year, but we were not scared about it. We were hiking in Bucegi mountains and Piatra Craiului national park, on snow, sun and beautiful weather. They came from Luxembourg, being hiking on other different places before this trip. And, as almost always, Mike, Dan and their friends were surprised by our mountains, and not by our food. We were welcomed by Mircea and Doina Opris in Bucegi mountains, and by Alina from Simon mountains village. Our trips went smooth and calm, enjoying the views, the landscape and all … (>>>)

Walking Irish ladies in Romania

After a brief but impressive trip with Iulian in 2008 in the Bucegi mountains I vowed to return to Romania for a longer trip sometime. I finally got to do so last week. We are just back from a wonderful week’s hiking in the Bucegi mountains with Iulian. Iulian is a professional and knowledgeable guide. His knowledge of the mountains, the culture, the people and the way of life in Romania made our trip really enjoyable. His love and appreciation of his country is inspirational. His photography leaves us with a wonderful catalogue of … (>>>)

Walking in Transylvania, welcome to nature

Eva and Christian enjoyed a mountain biking tour in Transylvania last summer as well, and now they came back with other 6 friends. For biking and walking. And we all really enjoyed the days we spent together. Weather was like on Spring, sun, heavy rains, blue sky, but all ended well. We start from Biertan saxon village, and ended in Simon mountain village, walking and biking. In Viscri we get a 50% off from the church ticket, because we arrive by bike, and we walk there, and this was cool. The we visit Piatra Craiului visitors center, and we w… (>>>)

Mountain biking in Brasov city area and Bucegi mountains

If there is something unique about mountain biking in Brasov, Romania, it’s the diversity of landscape and trails you can experience in a relatively small area. It’s always a pleasure to see the excitement of our guests when they witness with their own eyes the smooth transition from forest to alpine teritory, from limestone to conglomerate rock formations, from busy mountain resorts to quiet pastures. from high ridges down to mountain gorges.

Bucegi Circuit, our most popular six-days mountain biking tour, offers g… (>>>)

Walking tour in Romania, Bran county tour

Danes have an average of 5 to 6 weeks of holidays every year, so no wonder they are a very wanderous kind of people. Denmark being a relatively small country, the Danes usually travel abroad to follow their typical North-European appetite for outdoor activities.

Torben and Jesper chose the Bran County in Romania for their hiking trip in April 2015, hoping for some nice spring weather and fresh-green landscape. It was spring indeed, but the weather was rather challenging, keeping us at lower altitudes to avoid the unexpected snow up on … (>>>)

Splitboard in Romania, Bucegi and Piatra Craiului mountains

On September 2014 I was kindly asked by Sander to organize a splitboard trip for him and his girlfriend, Elzbieta. Both were beginners in touring and splitboading, and were very clear on the tours they request: more touring then climbing peaks. And this we did. We enjoyed four days in Bucegi mountains and two days in Piatra Craiului national park. As is in January here, we didn’t have too many sunny moments, but we were happy with the snow quality, the views and the most important ever, we have all the mountains just for us and those b… (>>>)

Natural trails on mountain bike, South East of Transylvania, Romania

After a mountain biking week, being in the mountains with Sigge’s friends, I realized how great it is to be fit and to be able to try everything on the bike in the mountains. This time I learned another lesson. With the group from Steven, I was amazed to observe how the people, when fit enough, are enjoying the Romanian natural trails. It’s interesting and I’m sure the trails which are build for moutainbiking are very nice but I think the natural ones are something special. Of course they are more demanding and as one of my guests was sa… (>>>)
