Exploring Transylvanian mountains, Bucegi and Piatra Craiului

Was the first snow from this year, but we were not scared about it. We were hiking in Bucegi mountains and Piatra Craiului national park, on snow, sun and beautiful weather. They came from Luxembourg, being hiking on other different places before this trip. And, as almost always, Mike, Dan and their friends were surprised by our mountains, and not by our food. We were welcomed by Mircea and Doina Opris in Bucegi mountains, and by Alina from Simon mountains village. Our trips went smooth and calm, enjoying the views, the landscape and all … (>>>)

Ski touring trip in Carpathian mountains, Romania

Was a group of friends and colleagues from university,  who usually enjoy skiing in The Alps, but they decide to see how are the Carpathian mountains in winter time. So, last February we enjoy a ski trip in Bucegi and Fagaras mountains, on perfect sunny days and powder snow! As always, we were almost the only skiers in both areas, and this was one of the nicest part! Bucegi mountains were great, our hosts Doina and Mircea, as always, very charming and welcoming people!

At Balea lake sky was blue, snow was as good as we wish, so the trip was jus… (>>>)

Hiking Fagaras main ridge, Romanian mountains – meeting high expectations

Things looked pretty difficult when Linda told me, upon arrival, that this trip to Romania was presented to her as “the best hiking trip one can have””. Not before mentioning, as a side note, that she had traveled across the continents, seeing most the world known attractions around the globe :-). In between trips, she was living in a quiet island, famous around the world for harbouring the capital city of British Columbia, Canada.

That’s what I’d call high expectations, I told myself while driving t… (>>>)

And after five years, they returned for another hike, this time in Piatra Craiului national park, Bucegi mountains and on Brasov backyard, the high hills of Bran area. I was happy to meet them again, and enjoy some sunny days on South Carpathian mountains! Ski touring in Romania, Bucegi and Poiana Brasov ski resort

I am just back from a week of backcountry skiing tour That Iulian organized for our group in the Carpathian Mountains. He over delivered compared to our expectations. Iulian is not only a mountain lover able to transmit his passion. He is also trustworthy on all aspects of a trip, including the sometimes boring logistics. A very competent and trustworthy mountain guide but also a nice person with a great sense of humour. I strongly recommend Iulian to anyone wanting to discover the Romanian wilderness. Belgian group of hikers enjoying a tour in Fagaras and Bucegi mountains, Romania

Hiking in Romania it is an unexpected experience for most of the visitors. And like this it was for the Belgium group of hikers from this August. As they are coming from a flat country like Belgium, cycling is the most common sport there. Also, they were good for hiking too, especially on  long hikes witch involve a lot of climbing. Not the last, they were jealous when they saw Transfagarasean highway, a long asphalt road with climb 1500 meters, in central part of Fagaras mountains. Of course I told them that our Swedish friends  climb it … (>>>)
