Walking holiday in Transylvania

Dear Iulian:

Many thanks for arranging our walking tour with the very excellent Horia. Caroline and I were delighted with the itinerary in the Bucegi mountains – the scenery was spectacular and Horia knowledgeable, informative and sensitive to our levels of fitness and expertise or lack thereof….

We are singing the praises of Transylvania to our English friends and very much hope to come back and explore more of Romania’s wonderful hills and mountains with you and your team.

Dutch hikers in Romania, hiking in Fagaras mountains

On the last years we deal quite a lot with hikers or bikers from Benelux countries. Well, I can say from the flat countries of Benelux. We were warned by Sigge to be carefully with them, because they bike and hike flat. Sometime they were very good prepared for climbs on bikes or on hikes, or sometime they were well surprised when they have to climb 1000 m in one climb. But this may happen when you travel for an active vacation. And when this active vacation happen to be in Carpathian mountains, be sure that we can find 500 or 1000 meters to climb f… (>>>)

Belgian group of hikers enjoying a tour in Fagaras and Bucegi mountains, Romania

Hiking in Romania it is an unexpected experience for most of the visitors. And like this it was for the Belgium group of hikers from this August. As they are coming from a flat country like Belgium, cycling is the most common sport there. Also, they were good for hiking too, especially on  long hikes witch involve a lot of climbing. Not the last, they were jealous when they saw Transfagarasean highway, a long asphalt road with climb 1500 meters, in central part of Fagaras mountains. Of course I told them that our Swedish friends  climb it … (>>>)

Walking tour in Romania, Bucegi, Piatra Craiului national park

As it happen quite a lot of times on last years, Hans came with some friends to walk on his home country mountain, Bucegi mountains in Romania. I said home country, because Hans live since more then 30 years in Germany, after he was running from the Communist regime from Romania, on a boat over Danube river, thrum Yugoslavia republic. Since then he was in Romania just one more time, in early ’90, and on this September he returned together with 4 friends to explore the Carpathian garden.

We traversed Bucegi mountains, we walked on the … (>>>)

Israeli walkers in Carpathian garden, Romania

Few years ago, an Israeli hiker told me: you can leave me here, near this river, and I just stay to look at the running water for hours or days! What we need is green forest and running water! And Paz was right! Almost every year a group of Israeli nature lovers choose to hike or bike with us. And each time we are surprised how “hungry” for nature they are. The weather is not so important if they are out in back-country, even if is rainy or beautiful sunny day, because they are enjoying every moment of their holiday in our Carpathian g… (>>>)

Mtb experience in Romania, Brasov area mountains

One of the many reasons to enjoy very much what we are doing is the chance to meet interesting and diverse people. Everybody we hike/bike/ski with, shares the same love for the mountains, still each group remains unique in its own way.

The last biking group we had was from Germany. It was surprising to see their equipment, following a week of biking with a group of Swedes pretty much up to date with everything related to mountain biking gear – and not just gear. Our four German friends were made from a different fabric: more than 10 yea… (>>>)

Single trail mtb in the mountains around Brasov City, Romania

We’ve been biking with our Swedish friends on the trails around Brasov for three years now and it just keeps getting better. The boys are a joy to watch, a continuous source of inspiration and awe. Their bmx origin is pretty obvious when you see them biking, and the combination of pure biking skills with a proper mountain-trail equipment and scenery simply works wonders.

For us it’s also a perfect opportunity not just to learn, but also to search for new trails. And we are happy to inform you that the possibilities are pretty … (>>>)

Wildflowers walk in Transylvania, active family holiday in Romania

As usual on each year I do I walk on backyard of Brasov, the high hills of Rucar Bran pass. This year I enjoyed this walk together with a Danish family, which were astonished by our nature, and not the last, by our wild flowers. This year was something special, because until begin of July was pretty rainy, and all over we saw beautiful and interesting wild flowers. Enjoy the photos! Iulian Five great days in The Carpathians We are a family from Denmark of four, including two teenagers. This was our first trip to Romania. Thankfully, a good fri… (>>>)

Hiking with nos amis Belges, Transylvania, Romania

How many times did we say to our old classmates or childhood friends, on those rare occasion we see them: “You know what? We should do that more often. We should do something together regularly, like we used to”. And we don’t, because we are all too damn busy.

Well, some people actually do that. We’ve guided Swedes who were making yearly trips around the world with friends they made more than 30 years earlier. We’ve shown the wanders of Bran Country to a group of Belgians in their early thirties who already … (>>>)

Ski touring experience in Romanian mountains

Ski touring experience in Romanian mountains

For Monika was the 6th ot 7th time in Romanian mountains, and the 3rd for ski touring. And this year she came with a group of 4 friends for one week ski touring in Bucegi and Fagaras mountains.

Our plans were a little bit changed by the snow conditions, quite poor for begin of February, but weather was just perfect, and at least we can enjoy the views 🙂

Originally we were planning to ski in Bucegi mountains and in West of Fagaras, at Barcaciu chalet. But taking in consideration the snow conditions we went at Balea lake, at least we start of skis in … (>>>)
