Hiking in Fagaras Mountains, Romania, Moldoveanu Peak

Manfred’s father is from Romania, from a Transylvanian village in the Hartibaci valley. Manfred has been to visit his grandparents in Romania several times and now he has decided to climb the highest peak in the Romanian Carpathians, Moldoveanu, in June 2022.

June can be a bad month for mountain hiking, it can rain, even snow, but we were lucky, having a beautiful weather during the 3 days we spent together at Cabana Podragu.

We climbed the Arpas valley, together with Dani from Sibiu, and the donkeys carrying supplies to the Turn… (>>>)

Luxembourger group enjoying Romanian mountains

We were a group of 6  friends from Luxembourg that originally were very reluctant to go hiking in Roumania.  But thanks to Julian, our guide, we finally had a wonderful time in the Carpathians Mountains.  Julian went out of his way to please us with our  different needs.  He was flexible enough with  any change of program and destination.  Thanks to him,  with  his  perfect knowledge of the country, we were able to fully admire the country-side, in all its beauty.  Not only were we pleasantly surprised  by the landscape, but  also the cl… (>>>)

Ski touring weekend in Bucegi mountains, Romania

If is possible to add a title to a ski tour this has to be: Never stop exploring! Because things like this have to happen: Bill, a 71 years old Australian gentelman, based in England, never stopped enjoying ski touring around the world. We were very impressed by his ski touring trips record around the world and by his determination when came about weather conditions! On first and last day of our trip, traversing Bucegi mountains from Sinaia to Ialomita valley, weather was bad, quite bad as a English may say! But a mountain lover never st… (>>>)

Ski touring in Romania, return of esquiadores Españoles

They are from Zaragoza, near the Pirineos and they were first time in Romania on winter of 2012, when the weather was not on our side. Anyway, after 3 years they returned to see if we can discover now the Romanian mountains on better weather. And we did! The first plan was Bucegi and Fagaras mountains, but at the end was Bucegi mountains and a speed climbing tour on Poiana Brasov ski resort, on a heavy snowing day! This time Bucegi mountains were great and we enjoyed everything, snow, sun, weather conditions and not the last the delicious foo… (>>>)

Ski touring in Romania, Bucegi and Poiana Brasov ski resort

I am just back from a week of backcountry skiing tour That Iulian organized for our group in the Carpathian Mountains. He over delivered compared to our expectations. Iulian is not only a mountain lover able to transmit his passion. He is also trustworthy on all aspects of a trip, including the sometimes boring logistics. A very competent and trustworthy mountain guide but also a nice person with a great sense of humour. I strongly recommend Iulian to anyone wanting to discover the Romanian wilderness. Paul Delesenne, Belgium ̵… (>>>)

Dutch hikers in Romania, hiking in Fagaras mountains

On the last years we deal quite a lot with hikers or bikers from Benelux countries. Well, I can say from the flat countries of Benelux. We were warned by Sigge to be carefully with them, because they bike and hike flat. Sometime they were very good prepared for climbs on bikes or on hikes, or sometime they were well surprised when they have to climb 1000 m in one climb. But this may happen when you travel for an active vacation. And when this active vacation happen to be in Carpathian mountains, be sure that we can find 500 or 1000 meters to climb f… (>>>)

Hike through the East of Fagaras mountains from 20-23 August 2014

As Karin said, was a smooth, quiet and relaxing tour! As in every autumn, I’m happy to enjoy at least one tour in Fagaras mountains, my home mountains…..and this year Karin was the one who “invite” me on a tour up there. Karin was a mathematics teacher at Doamna Stanca high school in Fagaras town, on the start of ’70, and she used to hike sometime up in Fagaras mountains. Now, after so many years she came back to visit some friends, and to enjoy a hike up there! We agreed first for a long traverse of Fagaras, fro… (>>>)

Week end hiking in Fagaras mountains

Middle of August was hot and busy! It was a weekend tour during one of the busiest weekend for those who choose to go by car up to Balea Lake! I mean, was very busy! I have to walk on the road for 3 km to arrive at the hut, because the latest 3-4 km from Transfagarasean highway was full with cars…

Anyway, out tour was far from the drivers and cars!

After the tour we enjoyed a dinner in Ucea de Sus village, as usual I can say 🙂

Enjoy the photos, Iulian, Brasov city, 12 October… (>>>)

Bergwandern in den Siebenbürger Alpen

Last year, on July 2010, I hiked with Christian from Stuttgart on the Fagaras main ridge, from far East to Podragu hut, on Central part of Fagaras mountains. We did this hike camping on a tent on the main ridge of Fagaras for 3 days. I can say the weather was not as we expected, was raining all the time, but even like this we climbed Moldoveanu peak, and we enjoy some tough hikes.

This year, on July 2011, Christian return to his favorite mountains, Fagaras mountains, for another challenging tour. This time we had great weather. On this year hik… (>>>)
