Bucegi mountains ski tour, 20-21 February 2010

For me it was the second time that I went on a trip with Iulian. Like last time (when I hiked to the highest peak in Romania – Moldoveanu) everything was very well organized by Iulian. We enjoyed good weather, snow was maybe not so ideal (too wet and heavy the first day and too icy the second day), but at least we knew at the end of these two days why we were tired. The Bucegi mountains are ideal for ski touring – and it’s good to have a guide like Iulian who knows the region and prevents you from going in the wrong direction. We stayed the night in a cozy … (>>>)

New York music journalist in Fagaras mountains

Dear Iulian, you definitely deserve this! Sorry that it’s US currency – we didn’t have enough lei and we couldn’t find any banks in the Danube Delta. But you can send this directly to B&H photo … We hoped that our guide in the mountains would be as knowledgeable as responsible as you were. We were truly impressed, though, by your thoughtfulness and attention. I certainly never expected to borrow a tripod and long lens to get better photographs. I hope we’ll keep in touch and get to see you again, either here or in New York. Thanks very muc… (>>>)

New York hikers in Romania

Dear Iulian, thank you so very much for a wonderful time in your wonderful country. I appreciate your patience with us, (especially on the hiking part) but most of all I thank you for the wonderful options you offered when the weather didn’t cooperate and especially for putting together this week’s adventures. I certainly didn’t expect to spend my birthday in Bulgaria! The Danube Delta was wonderful and beautiful! It was a pleasure to be with you and to get to know you and, as Scott says, I too hope we can keep in touch!

Kindest regards, Lau… (>>>)

Fagaras mountains Romania

Danish hikers in Fagaras mountains

Thanks to Iulian Cozma , my cousin Britt and I had a fantastic and eventful week in Romania from the 19th to the 26th of September. On the first day , in the Bucegi Mountains, the sky was clear and the sun was shining as it did throughout the week. From Sinaia we took the cable car 700 m up till we were above the tree line. It was barren and cold, so we had to put on our hats and gloves. We walked 300 very long meters up to Omu Peak. Here we sat, in the sun, in front of a wooden cottage where one could buy soup, coffee and very sweet tea, and enjoyed the view ov… (>>>)

The Dilettante Society with members from Sweden, UK and Switzerland

We had a marvellous 6 –day trek in the beautiful Carpathian mountains of Transylvania, mostly at an altitude of 1800 – 2500 metres. The landscape is beautiful and varied, with impressive forest at lower altitude and alpine as one gets higher. Wildlife is plentiful. We saw chamois on several occasions, came across fresh bear droppings and wild boar tracks. The trails are good and well maintained. The terrain can be quite challenging but still well within the abilities of a bunch of fairly fit 50 – 60 year olds. We were lucky with the weath… (>>>)

Climbing Moldoveanu peak, 4-6 September 2009
