Hiking in Romania, highest peak hike, Moldoveanu

Moldoveanu peak in Fagaras mountains, is the highest peak in Romanian mountains, with a height of 2544 m.

Situated on the East part of Fagaras mountains, the peak is accessible from all possible directions, South, North, East and West, but the most spectacular climb of Moldoveanu peak start from West, from Podragu hut. Are few ways to arrive at Podragu hut, the “easy” but beautiful one, in on Arpasul Mare valley, and after 5-6 hours of hiking, Podragu lake and hut appear!

Most of the climbs of Moldoveanu peak are part of one week, or more, … (>>>)

Climbing highest peak in Romania, Moldoveanu, June 2016

Rainy days in Fagaras mountains

Hello Iulian. Just a short note to say how much I enjoyed my time in Romania, and especially on the Fagaras Trail with you and Jon. Thank you very much for guiding us so well. You struck the important balance between making our trek enjoyable, challenging and safe. The walking tested my fitness and my kit and we certainly experienced a full range of changeable weather conditions! A sense of humour, in-depth local knowledge, and an awareness of what is safe in the conditions are all important on the mountains and you demonstrated all of the… (>>>)

British friends hiking on snowy trails in Fagaras mountains

It was Angus’s turn to organize a hiking trip for his friends in 2016, and following a tradition of exploring less popular destinations, he opted for a trip to Romania to hike up the highest peak in Fagaras mountains. Up till now they went in self-guided tours, but going for a guided tour in the Romanian Alps proved to be a really great idea. The weather turned quite bad up at more than 2000m, with low temperatures, first snow of the year and disturbing winds. The initial plan, going from Sambata all the way to Balea Lac, had to be abando… (>>>)

British hikers on Moldoveanu Peak, Romania 2016

Stuart and Liam flew to Romania on an extended weekend to hike the Carpathians, set foot on the highest peak and experience some of authentic rural lifestyle. Sounds like a simple plan, and in many way it was, but most of the times the great satisfactions come out of really simple things.

Iulian’s grandma house in Ucea de Sus village proved to be the ideal starting point to the mountain adventure. Proper traditional food (“carne și cârnați la borcan”, good luck finding that in any traditional Romanian restaurant) a… (>>>)

Hiking in Carpathian mountains, Romania, Fagaras range

When the going gets tough, the tough get going

Almost 30 years after a first attempt at doing the Fagaras mountains main ridge, Thomas and his wife came to Romania this July to finish the business. That first try ended shortly after starting, because of an unexpected snow. This time the weather was much better, with lots of sun and mild temperatures. The trek proved to be demanding non-the-less, with lots of technical ascents and descents, with long hours of marching along trails sometimes pretty exposed ridges.

Thomas and his wife wer… (>>>)

Discover Romanian mountains, adventure hiking in Carpathians

Eileen came from Switzerland to Romania tracking back family roots and trails. Her grandfather started his love affair with the mountains in Fagaras, in Sambata and Vistisoarea area, following his passion later in life up in the Swiss mountains. Eileen wanted to see with her own eyes where it all began, so, together with her friend Yves, they asked us to plan a ten days trekking tour in Romania.

We started near Brasov, in Piatra Mare, and made our way towards Fagaras via Bucegi and Piatra Craiului. All along the way we visited sheep farms… (>>>)

Drumetie montana in Muntii Fagaras

No way! Dor ca si-au dat drumu’ mai incet, … (>>>)
