Liliana is a Romanian born lady, living in Italy since many years, and this summer she try to organise a hiking tour in Romanian mountains, for a group of Italian and Dutch friends. Unfortunately because of the pandemic situation the tour was cancel, but Liliana still want to enjoy the beauty of the Carpathian Mountains.
Both our tours were in Fagaras mountains, end of June, for the Rododendron mountain flowers, and we choose (as always) Barcaciu hut area in West of Fagaras. Outstanding weather, flowers, food and company, thanks to Pe… (>>>)
Hello Iulian. Just a short note to say how much I enjoyed my time in Romania, and especially on the Fagaras Trail with you and Jon. Thank you very much for guiding us so well. You struck the important balance between making our trek enjoyable, challenging and safe. The walking tested my fitness and my kit and we certainly experienced a full range of changeable weather conditions! A sense of humour, in-depth local knowledge, and an awareness of what is safe in the conditions are all important on the mountains and you demonstrated all of the… (>>>)
Together with Jon and Chris, I backpacked half of Fagaras mountains ridge on one of the wettest period of 2016, even if was July.
Chris came from the UK especially for this tour, Jon works in Bucharest and does a lot of runs in the Romanian mountains, but the Fagaras mountains are special mountains, which require a lot of knowledge and skill. In order for both of them to enjoy this challenging hike, we hiked together.
As usual, we started from the East Side, from Piatra Craiului national park. After a warm evening at 7 Crai in Plaiul Foii, we s… (>>>)
Was a group of friends and colleagues from university, who usually enjoy skiing in The Alps, but they decide to see how are the Carpathian mountains in winter time.
So, last February we enjoy a ski trip in Bucegi and Fagaras mountains, on perfect sunny days and powder snow!
As always, we were almost the only skiers in both areas, and this was one of the nicest part!
Bucegi mountains were great, our hosts Doina and Mircea, as always, very charming and welcoming people!
At Balea lake sky was blue, snow was as good as we wish, so the trip was jus… (>>>)
First they came in Romania for business and then they start to explore the mountains. Are a group of 6-7 friends, coming from Holland for the second time hiking in Romania. First time they were surprised how much snow we can get in April on the high hills of Bran county, but the tour was ok. After three years they returned for some more days, so we enjoyed Bucegi and Fagaras mountains. And we really enjoy the tours, because the weather was just perfect for hiking and as usual at end of May, the alpine flowers were beautiful to see!
Looking forwa… (>>>)
On the last years we deal quite a lot with hikers or bikers from Benelux countries. Well, I can say from the flat countries of Benelux. We were warned by Sigge to be carefully with them, because they bike and hike flat. Sometime they were very good prepared for climbs on bikes or on hikes, or sometime they were well surprised when they have to climb 1000 m in one climb. But this may happen when you travel for an active vacation. And when this active vacation happen to be in Carpathian mountains, be sure that we can find 500 or 1000 meters to climb f… (>>>)
Hiking in Romania it is an unexpected experience for most of the visitors. And like this it was for the Belgium group of hikers from this August. As they are coming from a flat country like Belgium, cycling is the most common sport there. Also, they were good for hiking too, especially on long hikes witch involve a lot of climbing. Not the last, they were jealous when they saw Transfagarasean highway, a long asphalt road with climb 1500 meters, in central part of Fagaras mountains. Of course I told them that our Swedish friends climb it … (>>>)
As Karin said, was a smooth, quiet and relaxing tour!
As in every autumn, I’m happy to enjoy at least one tour in Fagaras mountains, my home mountains…..and this year Karin was the one who “invite” me on a tour up there.
Karin was a mathematics teacher at Doamna Stanca high school in Fagaras town, on the start of ’70, and she used to hike sometime up in Fagaras mountains. Now, after so many years she came back to visit some friends, and to enjoy a hike up there!
We agreed first for a long traverse of Fagaras, fro… (>>>)
Noemi is originally from Fagaras town, my home town, but as few “Fagaraseni” she choose to live in US, getting married in US, and enjoy her life on the other part of the world.
During their short holiday in Romania, wedding, family relatives visits, they enjoyed a two days walk on the high hills of South East Transylvania, on the high hills of Bran country, Brasov’s city backyard.
And we were very lucky with weather! On the night before the trip were very heavy rains all over, but as you may see on the photos, during our wa… (>>>)
