American family hiking in Romania, enjoying nature

They came from California to visit her family in Berlin. And because 10 years ago, if I remember well, I was hiking with some of their friends, Tanja and her family decide to spent a week hiking in Romania.
Even if our plans were changed by the weather conditions, we were lucky enough where we hiked in Bucegi mountains and in Fagaras mountains.
The kids were fantastic! They enjoy every single moments of their holiday, even playing on rain!
And sure, we stayed one night in Ucea de Sus village, my grandmother village, on the 1892 renovated house. And I think they like the evening spent there, seeing the water buffalo, how the families live there.
I will be happy to meet you and your family Tanja, you are welcome here any time!

Enjoy the photos,

Our 6 day, 5 night trekking adventure in Romania was fantastic. Iulian picked a good route for us to see different parts of the Carpathian mountains. Every day we enjoyed beautiful scenery and great vistas. One of the highlights of the experience was our guide, Iulian. He is very knowledgeable and was clearly excited to share both the beautiful Romanian landscape and the wonderful culture with our family. He accommodated our every need and his easy going nature made him an absolute pleasure to spend time with. We have been on many guided mountain experiences and he is the most personable guide I have ever met. He was great with our 13 year old kids and was always a pleasure to be around. We had many interesting discussions. His knowledge of the mountains and guiding experience are quite impressive and he introduced us to the wonderful Romanian culture. Along the trek we met several shepherds and we were able to observe (and taste!) the ancient process of cheese-making. At the end of our trip we got to spend a night in his grandmother’s house and village! There we wandered the streets of the village after a refreshing swim in the local pool, visited the town’s distillery, were served a very tasty traditional meal for dinner and watched the local water buffaloes come home after a day at the field – true cultural immersion! All huts we stayed in were comfortable and the food was good. We would not hesitate to do another trek (or perhaps winter back-country ski trip) with him. Iulian and Romania exceeded our expectations in every way.
