Explore Romanian mountains, hiking and culture in Transylvanian Alps

June can be heaven or hell! Well not as hot as is in hell maybe, (I never been there. Yet) but sometime weather can be unfriendly! Of course, weather is not so important when you traverse half of the World for hiking in Transylvanian Alps, the important part is the equipment you bring with you for a tour like this, the adrenaline you have and the expectations. In small words, we get wet every day of our trip, but also we dried the equipment over the night, being ready for the next day adventure. And we enjoy every step we did in Bucegi and Fagaras m… (>>>)

Climbing highest peak in Romania, rhododendron tour in Fagaras mountains

An unusually crowded Podragu hut welcomed us mid-June for a three days escape up on the Fagaras Ridge. Together with Marga and Thomas we climbed up to Moldoveanu Peak, marching through patches of blooming rhododendrons, enjoying some marvelous views and nice weather. It was a surprise to see so many trekkers up the mountain so early in the season. Most of them were from outside Romania, coming from France, Belgium, The Czech Republic, Israel. Apart from the staff working at the Podragu hut and some shepherds scattered along the trail… (>>>)

Walking in Piatra Craiului National Park, Romania

With Iulian away to study the effect of the global warming on the ski touring activities in Switzerland, I had the honor to open the 2013 hiking season at mountainguide.ro. Together with Anne and Martha, we enjoyed mild weather and quiet trails in Bran County, through the Zărnești Gorges, the villages of Peștera, Șirnea, Fundata and Moeciu de Sus. As you can tell from the photos.

În lipsa lui Iulian, plecat în Elveția să studieze efectul încălzirii globale asupra schiului de tură în Elveția, mi-a revenit mie onoarea de a deschide sezo… (>>>)

Ski touring trip in Romania, Bucegi mountains

Sheila was having something for what some of us just dream, one month ski holiday in Europe. Well, I can start this story back in 2009, when we start to talk about Romanian mountains, traverse of Fagaras main ridge. in Summer of course. After two years, in September 2011 we did the Fagaras main traverse, in just 5 days, excellent tour. You may see the photos here. Well, after the hike we did in Fagaras, and why not, after the photos from my ski touring tours I send to Sheila, she decided that one week from the four weeks skiing holiday in Europe, … (>>>)

Neve fresca, fine, fredda, giusta per i nostri sci.

Ski touring in Ciucas mountains

Some people do not even look for ski tour in Ciucas mountains, the are not so big, not big skiing there, and in a way is true. But even taking in consideration this facts, a ski touring day there offer very nice skiing, on lovely landscapes. Slopes are not so big, maximum 200 m difference, but the quality of the snow is one of the best in the region.

Transylvania snowshoeing day tour

We really had a great day trip with Iulian in the Carpathian Mountains near Bran village. The landscape was superb and the place very remote – we did not meet anybody the whole day, except a shepherd with his 200 sheep. Even though our trip was planned only two days in advance, everything was just perfect. Especially the small things made the tour with Iulian exceptional: the pick up from and the drop-off directly to our pension in Brasov, the information he gave about Romania from the perspective of a local person, the wind-protected she… (>>>)

Powder skiing in Poiana Brasov ski resort

Second day of powder skiing in Poiana Brasov ski resort. Winter came here fast and rich in snow, so it will be a great ski season. Last night we get -18 Celsius in Brasov, and Sunday the weather forecast is good, more snow 🙂

Haute route of Carpathian mountains, traverse of 7 mountains in Romanian Carpathians

It was a tour like not other! In 11 days we hiked ~230 km, we climbed 12.000 meters and we descent 12.000 meters. Yes, in Romanian Carpathian mountains! And we hiked in wild mountains, where we meet just shepherds, sheep and dogs, and as usualy just few persons.

Juergen and Michael came from Germany, with a only wish: to do a traverse of Carpathian mountains in Romania, and we did it!

I hiked all of this mountains many times, but not in row, so also was really pleasure for me to do this tour! We stay in mountain huts, mountain refuge and tents! W… (>>>)

Mountain biking in Romania across the Carpathians

The flying Dutch across the Carpathians Karin, Yvonne, Angelique and Henk came to Romania this September to do a „TransCarpathian“ ride on mountain bikes. Even if the trip was an „advanced“ one, they got more than they bargained for. The climbs were longer and more difficult than expected (on or off the bike), the descents more technical – generally what we consider being „advanced“ mountain biking was a closer match to what our Dutch guests considered an „expert“ level… (>>>)
