Hike through the East of Fagaras mountains from 20-23 August 2014

As Karin said, was a smooth, quiet and relaxing tour! As in every autumn, I’m happy to enjoy at least one tour in Fagaras mountains, my home mountains…..and this year Karin was the one who „invite“ me on a tour up there. Karin was a mathematics teacher at Doamna Stanca high school in Fagaras town, on the start of ’70, and she used to hike sometime up in Fagaras mountains. Now, after so many years she came back to visit some friends, and to enjoy a hike up there! We agreed first for a long traverse of Fagaras, fro… (>>>)

Hiking with nos amis Belges, Transylvania, Romania

How many times did we say to our old classmates or childhood friends, on those rare occasion we see them: „You know what? We should do that more often. We should do something together regularly, like we used to“. And we don’t, because we are all too damn busy.

Well, some people actually do that. We’ve guided Swedes who were making yearly trips around the world with friends they made more than 30 years earlier. We’ve shown the wanders of Bran Country to a group of Belgians in their early thirties who already … (>>>)

Ten days of hiking in Transsilvania

Adding ten days of hiking in Transsilvania to our down-the-Danube cycling trip Annabel and I sought to top off one adventure with another. Logically, our erratic way of communication should have led us straight into the desert, but thanks to Iulian’s golden patience we got golden Horia to take us through Postavaru, Piatra Craiului, Bucegi and Fagaras Mountains. A somewhat unseasonal snow storm greeted us upon arrival in Brasov October 1st. Our exceedingly wild expectations matched only by our exceedingly lacking equipme… (>>>)

Hiking in Carpathian mountains, Romania, Fagaras range

When the going gets tough, the tough get going

Almost 30 years after a first attempt at doing the Fagaras mountains main ridge, Thomas and his wife came to Romania this July to finish the business. That first try ended shortly after starting, because of an unexpected snow. This time the weather was much better, with lots of sun and mild temperatures. The trek proved to be demanding non-the-less, with lots of technical ascents and descents, with long hours of marching along trails sometimes pretty exposed ridges.

Thomas and his wife wer… (>>>)

Discover Romanian mountains, adventure hiking in Carpathians

Eileen came from Switzerland to Romania tracking back family roots and trails. Her grandfather started his love affair with the mountains in Fagaras, in Sambata and Vistisoarea area, following his passion later in life up in the Swiss mountains. Eileen wanted to see with her own eyes where it all began, so, together with her friend Yves, they asked us to plan a ten days trekking tour in Romania.

We started near Brasov, in Piatra Mare, and made our way towards Fagaras via Bucegi and Piatra Craiului. All along the way we visited sheep farms… (>>>)

Explore Romanian mountains, hiking and culture in Transylvanian Alps

June can be heaven or hell! Well not as hot as is in hell maybe, (I never been there. Yet) but sometime weather can be unfriendly! Of course, weather is not so important when you traverse half of the World for hiking in Transylvanian Alps, the important part is the equipment you bring with you for a tour like this, the adrenaline you have and the expectations. In small words, we get wet every day of our trip, but also we dried the equipment over the night, being ready for the next day adventure. And we enjoy every step we did in Bucegi and Fagaras m… (>>>)

Haute route of Carpathian mountains, traverse of 7 mountains in Romanian Carpathians

It was a tour like not other! In 11 days we hiked ~230 km, we climbed 12.000 meters and we descent 12.000 meters. Yes, in Romanian Carpathian mountains! And we hiked in wild mountains, where we meet just shepherds, sheep and dogs, and as usualy just few persons.

Juergen and Michael came from Germany, with a only wish: to do a traverse of Carpathian mountains in Romania, and we did it!

I hiked all of this mountains many times, but not in row, so also was really pleasure for me to do this tour! We stay in mountain huts, mountain refuge and tents! W… (>>>)

Hiking in Carpathian garden, Romanian mountains

Sometimes less is more, even in mountaineering Every now and then we have guests that overestimate their abilities – or underestimate the difficulties of the Romanian trails high up in the mountains. The altitudes here are not as impressive as in the Alps or the Dolomite mountains (the main ridges are just above 2000m with highest peaks barely scratching the 2500m limit), but the vertical drops from the valleys to the main ridges are more or less similar, with equally demanding trails. We are proud to say that we never let that sp… (>>>)

Hiking in Carpathian mountains, Romania, Fagaras mountains, Transylvanian Alps

I always love to hike in Fagaras mountains on autumn, and when Anja ask me to plan a tour where we’ll meet nobody, I was happy to propose her a tour in Fagaras mountains, because there you meet nobody. And like this it was!

We hiked for 5 days, on very god weather and some cloudy days, but we both enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and silence of the mountains, and not the last the cranberries from the forest of Barcaciu hut, in West of Fagaras mountains.

We also spent a night in Ucea de Sus village, where is still possible to realize what is mean … (>>>)
