Bergwandern im Fagaras-Gebirge Rumänien

We went on a 3 day hike with Iulian to Moldoveanu Peak in September 2021 and we had the best time! Lots of fun conversation and laughs. Iulian is very knowledgeable and has lots of interesting stories. We also felt incredibly safe with Iulian. He is very experienced and we had every confidence that he would get us to the top of Moldoveanu Peak! He was very organised and made the 3 day hiking experience incredibly easy for us….well as easy as climbing a 2544m mountain can be! It rained very heavily on the first day and Iulian was amazing at ensur… (>>>)

Bergwanderungen in Rumänien, Fagaras Gebirge

Wandern in Rumänien, Fagaras-Gebirgswanderung

Our hike was short, but challenging.  Meaning that in one day we have to climb Moldoveanu peak, the highest one in Romanian mountains and to arrive to Balea Lake on Transfagarasean highway. Plan was simple, on first day we climb Moldoveanu peak and sleep at Podragu hut, next day we hike from Podragu to Balea Lake.

And this we did, on a loooong first day hiking, 9 1/2 hours, climbing 1926 meters during 22 km. Starting early morning from Ucea de Sus village, is a plus, because the first part of the day is on low morning temperatures. By climbing … (>>>)

Britische Wanderer auf Moldoveanu , Rumänien 2016

Stuart and Liam flew to Romania on an extended weekend to hike the Carpathians, set foot on the highest peak and experience some of authentic rural lifestyle. Sounds like a simple plan, and in many way it was, but most of the times the great satisfactions come out of really simple things.

Iulian’s grandma house in Ucea de Sus village proved to be the ideal starting point to the mountain adventure. Proper traditional food („carne È™i cârnaÈ›i la borcan“, good luck finding that in any traditional Romanian restaurant) a… (>>>)

Hiking in Romania, Fagaras mountains from Piatra Craiului to Suru

Eileen and Yves. We „know“ them since three summers, when we were first time contacted by Eileen mother, Christine, born in Brasov city and Fagaras mountain lover. Her father was bringing her to Fagaras mountains, Transylvanian Alps quite often, and also Eileen told me about her talks with her grand father about this mountains.

On 2013 they were hiking from Brasov to almost Olt valley, on different mountain ranges, accompanied by my colleague Mihai. On 2014 they came for a mountain biking tour with Horia, and they ende… (>>>)

Hiking Fagaras main ridge, Romanian mountains – meeting high expectations

Things looked pretty difficult when Linda told me, upon arrival, that this trip to Romania was presented to her as „the best hiking trip one can have““. Not before mentioning, as a side note, that she had traveled across the continents, seeing most the world known attractions around the globe :-). In between trips, she was living in a quiet island, famous around the world for harbouring the capital city of British Columbia, Canada.

That’s what I’d call high expectations, I told myself while driving t… (>>>)

Fagaras ridge traverse, andurance hiking in Romania

I’m not sure how to say this, but sometimes words are not enough to describe the pleasure of meeting some people or, even more, taking tours on the mountains with them. I was speechless after I met Arnon and crossed most of the Fagaras ridge with him, in just two days. I did this tour many times before, not as fast as now, but I enjoyed it every single time! I was speechless to see how much a person can enjoy a tour like this and how much fun such a tour can be!

First, I planned this trip together with Tiberiu from Bucharest, who said he was fit enough f… (>>>)

Backpacking Romania, Fagaras and Bucegi mountains, Transylvanian Alps

On the past seven years, I was lucky, happy and fortunate, because on each summer was at least a person who ask about backpacking Fagaras ridge, to traverse the entire ridge of Fagaras mountains, from Piatra Craiului mountain range to Olt valley. Well, I can say that last year, with Juergen and Michael we traverse half of South Carpathian mountains, from Brasov city to Avrig town, but this is another story, you can read about it on tours report from last year.

This summer the happy backpacking hikers came from the other side of the world, f… (>>>)

Climbing highest peak in Romania, rhododendron tour in Fagaras mountains

An unusually crowded Podragu hut welcomed us mid-June for a three days escape up on the Fagaras Ridge. Together with Marga and Thomas we climbed up to Moldoveanu Peak, marching through patches of blooming rhododendrons, enjoying some marvelous views and nice weather. It was a surprise to see so many trekkers up the mountain so early in the season. Most of them were from outside Romania, coming from France, Belgium, The Czech Republic, Israel. Apart from the staff working at the Podragu hut and some shepherds scattered along the trail… (>>>)
