Hiking Fagaras main ridge, Romanian mountains – meeting high expectations

Things looked pretty difficult when Linda told me, upon arrival, that this trip to Romania was presented to her as „the best hiking trip one can have””. Not before mentioning, as a side note, that she had traveled across the continents, seeing most the world known attractions around the globe :-). In between trips, she was living in a quiet island, famous around the world for harbouring the capital city of British Columbia, Canada.

That’s what I’d call high expectations, I told myself while driving t… (>>>)

Discovering the South-East Transylvania on mountain bike

The Saxon villages, the Bran Country, the Piatra Craiului National Park: three hotspots of Transylvanian tourism can be nicely covered in a rather relaxed three days mtb program, as showed by our recent trip with Eva and Christian this June.

The visit at Viscri fortified church, the mtb ride on the bike trails built along the mild slopes of the Transylvanian hills, through forests and meadows, the exquisite accommodation at Casa cu Zorele, the impressive Zarnesti Gorges and the imposing Piatra Craiului National Park, the scenic vi… (>>>)

VTT en Roumanie: the French connection is open

Word about our mtb tours in the Carpathian mountains, Transylvania, is constantly spreading. Bikers from Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, UK, Sweden are coming here for a few good years now, and it was about time for the French mountain bikers to show up.

Jean and Nelly flew over from Toulouse, searching for some nice single trails, single track, all-mountain type biking to test their brand new 27.5 full-suspension bikes. And that’s precisely what they’ve found, along with gorgeous scenery, delicious food, perfe… (>>>)

Hiking and walking in Romania, Fagaras and Bucegi mountains

It was a pretty wet summer, but if you know how to make from this an advantage it works very well for both parties! Like this was happen during my tour with Franck and Sibille, on early July this year. Frank was hiking in Fagaras mountain almost 30 years ago, and was coming back to hike them again.

After a pleasant evening in Ucea de Sus village, we start our journey to Fagaras mountains. Weather in this beautiful mountains was so so, and after three days there we decide to move in Brasov backyard, the high hills of Poarta and Moeciu de Sus villag… (>>>)

Mtb experience in Romania, Brasov area mountains

One of the many reasons to enjoy very much what we are doing is the chance to meet interesting and diverse people. Everybody we hike/bike/ski with, shares the same love for the mountains, still each group remains unique in its own way.

The last biking group we had was from Germany. It was surprising to see their equipment, following a week of biking with a group of Swedes pretty much up to date with everything related to mountain biking gear – and not just gear. Our four German friends were made from a different fabric: more than 10 yea… (>>>)

As usual on each year I do I walk on backyard of Brasov, the high hills of Rucar Bran pass. This year I enjoyed this walk together with a Danish family, which were astonished by our nature, and not the last, by our wild flowers. Natural trails on mountain bike, South East of Transylvania, Romania

After a mountain biking week, being in the mountains with Sigge’s friends, I realized how great it is to be fit and to be able to try everything on the bike in the mountains. This time I learned another lesson. With the group from Steven, I was amazed to observe how the people, when fit enough, are enjoying the Romanian natural trails. It’s interesting and I’m sure the trails which are build for moutainbiking are very nice but I think the natural ones are something special. Of course they are more demanding and as one of my guests was sa… (>>>)

Mountain biking holiday in Romania, Bran county, Transylvanian villages

Willing to ride…Ido and Liorah, from Israel, wanted to try the mountainbiking in the Romanian mountains.  After a small adjustments of the plans we had a very beautiful biking week, maybe not on the most technical trails but with beautiful landscapes and a few challenges. I was very much impressed of their wish, will and determination  to ride and I can say they did a great job. With very good mood and joy we discovered the views around Baiului, Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Mountains. Riding thru green forests, along mountain r… (>>>)

Expert mountain biking tour in Romania, South East of Transylvania

Performance… About Sigge and Mike I’ve heard last year. They were described as mountainbikers with very good tehnical skills so that made me pretty much eager to meet them. And I just say this: It all worthed. This year they came with Thomas  and we rode the Carpathian Expert Ride wich is the most difficult tour offered by MTBtours.ro – and Mountainguide.ro in Romania at this point. I had big expectations from the whole trip but I have to confess: the tour and the way of riding was so much beyond my dreams.

With this team it was alway… (>>>)

Traveler to Romania, walking in Transylvania and Maramures counties

Traveler to Romania, walking in Transylvania and Maramures counties What is meaning to travel to Romania? Why to travel to Romania? I try to answer to the second question first. I hear so many times this question, why you go there for hiking, mountain biking or for ski touring? Is a country with not a very good reputation, in East Europe, etc… but I can say that the reality is very different from what the travelers expect before they arrive! And this is the good part. They find here what they wish for, nice hiking, biking or ski tours, g… (>>>)
