Bucegi mountains traverse, hiking in Romania

As usual, weather is weather, and in September sometime plans has to be changed because of HER. But based on our 20 years’ experience in organising hiking tours in Romanian mountains, weather is not an issue.The plan was to hike in Fagaras mountains, climbing Moldoveanu peak in two days hike, but just with few days before our trip, the first serious snow of this season came and we had to change our plans, because hiking has to be fun, not only climbing peaks! Hiking in romania, Fagaras mountains hike

Our hike was short, but challenging.  Meaning that in one day we have to climb Moldoveanu peak, the highest one in Romanian mountains and to arrive to Balea Lake on Transfagarasean highway. Plan was simple, on first day we climb Moldoveanu peak and sleep at Podragu hut, next day we hike from Podragu to Balea Lake.

And this we did, on a loooong first day hiking, 9 1/2 hours, climbing 1926 meters during 22 km. Starting early morning from Ucea de Sus village, is a plus, because the first part of the day is on low morning temperatures. By climbing … (>>>)

Enjoy mountain biking in Romanian mountains

We are a group of four Swedes who love exploring different countries and especially the mountains and the country side on bike, by foot and on skies. This year we decided to travel to Romania to test the Carpathians on mountain bikes. Dutch hikers in Romania, hiking in Fagaras mountains

On the last years we deal quite a lot with hikers or bikers from Benelux countries. Well, I can say from the flat countries of Benelux. We were warned by Sigge to be carefully with them, because they bike and hike flat. Sometime they were very good prepared for climbs on bikes or on hikes, or sometime they were well surprised when they have to climb 1000 m in one climb. As Karin said, was a smooth, quiet and relaxing tour! As in every autumn, I’m happy to enjoy at least one tour in Fagaras mountains, my home mountains…..and this year Karin was the one who “invite” me on a tour up there. Karin was a mathematics teacher at Doamna Stanca high school in Fagaras town, on the start of ’70, and she used to hike sometime up in Fagaras mountains. Snow walking in Transylvania

It was freezing cold and pouring with rain the day I met Antonia and Annabel in the city center of Brasov. We were to discuss about our scheduled trekking tour up in the Carpathian Mountains and the weather wasn’t looking very promising.

Fagaras mountains, Israeli hikers in Romania

It took them more than two years of preparations before actually arriving to Romania, but the wait was totally worth the while. Eran, Omer and their father Eli came to Romania to enjoy the lush forests, the mountain rivers and lakes: views that are available in very limited supply in Israel.

We walked the trails of Bucegi, Piatra Craiului, Bran County, Fagaras Mountains. We weren’t the fastest, nor the more spirited of the trekkers – but we were definitely taking the best brakes. Fresh made coffee (thanks Omer), home made … (>>>)

Haute route of Carpathian mountains, traverse of 7 mountains in Romanian Carpathians

It was a tour like not other! In 11 days we hiked ~230 km, we climbed 12.000 meters and we descent 12.000 meters. Yes, in Romanian Carpathian mountains! And we hiked in wild mountains, where we meet just shepherds, sheep and dogs, and as usualy just few persons.

Juergen and Michael came from Germany, with a only wish: to do a traverse of Carpathian mountains in Romania, and we did it!

I always love to hike in Fagaras mountains on autumn, and when Anja ask me to plan a tour where we’ll meet nobody, I was happy to propose her a tour in Fagaras mountains, because there you meet nobody. And like this it was!

We hiked for 5 days, on very god weather and some cloudy days, but we both enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and silence of the mountains, and not the last the cranberries from the forest of Barcaciu hut, in West of Fagaras mountains.
