Japanese senior hikers on Moldoveanu Peak

More and more Asian tourists are coming to Romania, you see them roaming the historical cities of Brasov and Sibiu, or queuing for a visit at Bran Castle or Peles Castle. Up the mountains, however, it’s a rather different story. Or at least it was, till this summer, when a consistent group of Japanese hikers came to Romania for a longer tour, including the historical milestones mentioned above, but also trekking in Bucegi and Fagaras Mountains.

It was our job and honor to guide the group up to the highest point of Romania, on Moldov… (>>>)

Hiking in romania, Fagaras mountains hike

Our hike was short, but challenging.  Meaning that in one day we have to climb Moldoveanu peak, the highest one in Romanian mountains and to arrive to Balea Lake on Transfagarasean highway. Plan was simple, on first day we climb Moldoveanu peak and sleep at Podragu hut, next day we hike from Podragu to Balea Lake.

And this we did, on a loooong first day hiking, 9 1/2 hours, climbing 1926 meters during 22 km. Starting early morning from Ucea de Sus village, is a plus, because the first part of the day is on low morning temperatures. By climbing … (>>>)

Building the French Connection: VTT en Roumanie

The Postavaru Mountains, the Piatra Craiului National Park and the Bucegi Natural Park were our playground for an intensive four-days mountain biking adventure at the beginning of the 2018 season.

Our guests were a group of French “VTT-istes” from Lyon area. They enjoyed the great landscapes, the nice weather, the delicious local food, and, of course, the great trails.

We are slowly but firmly building a proper French Connection, putting Romania on the top destinations list for “les VTTistes français”… (>>>)

Magical snowshoeing tour in Transylvanian mountains

We are two keen, but not super-fit walkers, who are just hitting their 60s. We spent 8 days in Romania under the guidance of Iulian and his team. Everything was tailored to our capabilities and interests and we recommend this excellent company without reservation. The original plan had been for us to walk into the Bucegi mountains and stay in a mountain hut for two nights. Before the ascent, Horia (our superb guide) took us on local, quite tough walks and it became obvious that the mountain climb would not be suitable for us. So the plan wa… (>>>)

Ski touring family trip in Transylvanian Alps, Romania

This is happening when you son study medicine in Cluj Napoca University: you go to visit him, but you bring your ski touring gear with you, because are some nice mountains and powder to ski! And this Octavian and Bettina did, they came for a ski tour in Fagaras and Bucegi montains, one of the best and most accessible mountains for ski touring in Romania. Even if the weather at Balea lake was a truly winter weather, cold and wind storms, we enjoyed blue sky and powder snow during our trips in Bucegi mountains.

Enjoy the photos, Iulian, Februar… (>>>)

Swedes enjoying the Carpathian mountains

Sometimes it is simply better to let our guests tell the story. Without much ado, here it is:

“We are a group of four Swedes who love exploring different countries and especially the mountains and the country side on bike, by foot and on skies. This year we decided to travel to Romania to test the Carpathians on mountain bikes. The expectations were set high after reading the web page and the professional contact with Horia and Iulian before arriving in Romaina. And indeed, the Carpathians and our experiences during the week didn’… (>>>)

Luxembourger group enjoying Romanian mountains

We were a group of 6  friends from Luxembourg that originally were very reluctant to go hiking in Roumania.  But thanks to Julian, our guide, we finally had a wonderful time in the Carpathians Mountains.  Julian went out of his way to please us with our  different needs.  He was flexible enough with  any change of program and destination.  Thanks to him,  with  his  perfect knowledge of the country, we were able to fully admire the country-side, in all its beauty.  Not only were we pleasantly surprised  by the landscape, but  also the cl… (>>>)

Walking Irish ladies in Romania

After a brief but impressive trip with Iulian in 2008 in the Bucegi mountains I vowed to return to Romania for a longer trip sometime. I finally got to do so last week. We are just back from a wonderful week’s hiking in the Bucegi mountains with Iulian. Iulian is a professional and knowledgeable guide. His knowledge of the mountains, the culture, the people and the way of life in Romania made our trip really enjoyable. His love and appreciation of his country is inspirational. His photography leaves us with a wonderful catalogue of … (>>>)

Discovering the South-East Transylvania on mountain bike

The Saxon villages, the Bran Country, the Piatra Craiului National Park: three hotspots of Transylvanian tourism can be nicely covered in a rather relaxed three days mtb program, as showed by our recent trip with Eva and Christian this June.

The visit at Viscri fortified church, the mtb ride on the bike trails built along the mild slopes of the Transylvanian hills, through forests and meadows, the exquisite accommodation at Casa cu Zorele, the impressive Zarnesti Gorges and the imposing Piatra Craiului National Park, the scenic vi… (>>>)
