Hiking in Fagaras Mountains, Romania, Moldoveanu Peak

Manfred’s father is from Romania, from a Transylvanian village in the Hartibaci valley. Manfred has been to visit his grandparents in Romania several times and now he has decided to climb the highest peak in the Romanian Carpathians, Moldoveanu, in June 2022.

June can be a bad month for mountain hiking, it can rain, even snow, but we were lucky, having a beautiful weather during the 3 days we spent together at Cabana Podragu.

Family hiking in Romania, South Carpathian Mountains

As most of the requests, the one I received from Bernhard was simple: I would like to hike in Romania with my daughter, kind of gift for her 18 years old birthday! Is not first time when parents are coming with kids to hike in Romania, as presents for any type of anniversary, but each time is special! The interest of a young person just to go hiking on another country, with one of the parents, surprise me each time! And this time I choose for them Bucegi and Fagaras mountains, the most representatives mountain ranges in Romanian Carpathian.

Australian Wombats across the Romanian Carpathians

There are 20 years since I organise outdoor journeys in Romanian mountains and I can remember most of my guests. And for sure I’ll remember the Australian wombats, Geoff, Max and Colin, and of course I Kate. The original tour starts in Brasov and end almost in Sibiu, over 12 days of hiking in seven mountain ranges in South Carpathian mountain in Romania, kind of Haute route in Romania. I always love to hike in Fagaras mountains on autumn, and when Anja ask me to plan a tour where we’ll meet nobody, I was happy to propose her a tour in Fagaras mountains, because there you meet nobody. And like this it was!

We hiked for 5 days, on very god weather and some cloudy days, but we both enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and silence of the mountains, and not the last the cranberries from the forest of Barcaciu hut, in West of Fagaras mountains.

Hiking in Fagaras mountains, culture trip in Transylvania

A tour that allowed to me to meet very interesting persons, from diferent countries and cultures. We hiked in Fagaras mountains, the Transylvanian Alps, climbing the highest peaks in Romania, Moldoveanu and Negoiu peaks, and as always, we enjoyed a dinner on my grandmother village, Ucea de Sus. After our outstanding hike in Fagaras mountains, we enjoyed the visits in Sibiu city, the formes European capital of Culture in 2007, Sighisoara medieval town, Brasov city and not the last the capital city of Romania, Bucharest!
