Four seasons in six days of mtb in Romania

Ausrine, Karolis, Aurimas și Tadas drove 1500km from Lithuania to Romania with four bikes on the rooftop of their car, hoping for some unforgettable mountain biking experiences in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains, near Brașov City. And that’s precisely what they’ve got.

We rode our bikes together on nicely flowing trails and technical single tracks, on long climbs and endless descents, through forests an pastures, over roots and rocks. We enjoyed some really unusual weather, going through sun, rain, clouds, win… (>>>)

Single trail mtb in the mountains around Brasov City, Romania

We’ve been biking with our Swedish friends on the trails around Brasov for three years now and it just keeps getting better. The boys are a joy to watch, a continuous source of inspiration and awe. Their bmx origin is pretty obvious when you see them biking, and the combination of pure biking skills with a proper mountain-trail equipment and scenery simply works wonders.

For us it’s also a perfect opportunity not just to learn, but also to search for new trails. And we are happy to inform you that the possibilities are pretty … (>>>)

Mountain biking in Transylvania, Saxon villages

Mountain biking in Transylvania, Saxon villages

Our first mtb tour of the 2014 season was scheduled just before Easter. A very sunny and warm beginning of April, coming after an equally warm and dry winter, gave as hopes for a perfect biking weather during our five days ride with Eileen and Yves.

Two days before starting the tour, winter finally came to our mountains. Not the best circumstances for a bike tour. Keeping our rides at lower altitudes, we fought our way through some wet snow and plenty of rain before switching for a day of ski-touring up in Poiana Brașov resort.

Then we moved … (>>>)

Unspoilt mountain territory

You can still find unspoilt mountain territory in Europe, where ski touring, split-boarding, free-ride skiing and snowshoeing can be done on pure wild slopes, without ski lifts, high alpine roads or parking lots in sight.

Grab your gear and come for a winter outdoor adventure up in the Carpathian Mountains, South Transylvania, Romania.

The mountains around Brasov historical city offer great opportunities both for the relaxed ski tourers, and the more adventurous free-ride skiers. There are easy to moderate slopes in Bucegi Mou… (>>>)

Walking on the borders of old empires

The spectacular mountain ridges of the South Carpathian Mountains, stretching from East to West on the Southern limit of Transylvania, Romania, marked the historical border between the Central European great powers and the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire.

Physical borders, as well as empires, are a thing of the past. Cultural and historical heritage, though, are still present. The German order and efficiency is nicely completed by the Oriental relaxed attitude. You can see it in the way the houses are built, streets aligned, public se… (>>>)

Christmas in Ucea de Sus village, Fagaras county, Transylvania

My dear friends, It’s been a wonderful year and I was lucky to meet great people coming for ski touring, hiking and walking in Romania.

Christmas is one of the most important holidays in Romania and maybe the most beautiful as it’s celebration differs depending on the regions.  As you know, my family is original from Transylvania (“Ardeal”) – Ucea de Sus village, just at the base of Fagarasi Mountains.  Here, the Christmas tradition is very important and maintained for hundreds of years. On the Chris… (>>>)

Natural trails on mountain bike, South East of Transylvania, Romania

After a mountain biking week, being in the mountains with Sigge’s friends, I realized how great it is to be fit and to be able to try everything on the bike in the mountains. This time I learned another lesson. With the group from Steven, I was amazed to observe how the people, when fit enough, are enjoying the Romanian natural trails. It’s interesting and I’m sure the trails which are build for moutainbiking are very nice but I think the natural ones are something special. Of course they are more demanding and as one of my guests was sa… (>>>)
