Hiking in Carpathian mountains, Romania, Fagaras range

When the going gets tough, the tough get going

Almost 30 years after a first attempt at doing the Fagaras mountains main ridge, Thomas and his wife came to Romania this July to finish the business. That first try ended shortly after starting, because of an unexpected snow. This time the weather was much better, with lots of sun and mild temperatures. The trek proved to be demanding non-the-less, with lots of technical ascents and descents, with long hours of marching along trails sometimes pretty exposed ridges.

Hiking in Carpathian mountains, Romania, Fagaras mountains, Transylvanian Alps

I always love to hike in Fagaras mountains on autumn, and when Anja ask me to plan a tour where we’ll meet nobody, I was happy to propose her a tour in Fagaras mountains, because there you meet nobody. And like this it was!

We hiked for 5 days, on very god weather and some cloudy days, but we both enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and silence of the mountains, and not the last the cranberries from the forest of Barcaciu hut, in West of Fagaras mountains.

We also spent a night in Ucea de Sus village, where is still possible to realize what is mean … (>>>)

Walking in Carpathian mountains, Romania

Autumn is almost here, but we still enjoy warm days and blue sky! The tour presented here was done on the famous area of Bran village, on the high hills from this area, on the region of Poarta, Simon and Moeciu de Sus mountain villages, and not the last in Piatra Craiului national park.

Moritz, a German young man, who’s working in Bucharest since 4 years, was visited by his mother, and he take the opportunity of beautiful autumn days to show to his mother the beauty of the Romanian country side.

As always, our host was mrs. Minerva, who d… (>>>)

Walking tour in rainy but beautiful Romania

You’d say rain is a major downer when going for a walking trip. Who wouldn’t prefer a nice, sunny, warm day on the trails instead of marching around, across or simply through muddy puddles, with rain falls ranging from light drizzles to heavy hail, with constantly wet shoes, clothes, etc.

Still, if you love mountains, you enjoy them no matter how the weather is. That’s exactly what we did, in the select company of seven Swedish guests that we guided through Bucegi mountains from Sinaia to Moeciu, than across Bran Cou… (>>>)

Week end hiking in Fagaras mountains

Middle of August was hot and busy! It was a weekend tour during one of the busiest weekend for those who choose to go by car up to Balea Lake! I mean, was very busy! I have to walk on the road for 3 km to arrive at the hut, because the latest 3-4 km from Transfagarasean highway was full with cars…

Anyway, out tour was far from the drivers and cars!

After the tour we enjoyed a dinner in Ucea de Sus village, as usual I can say ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy the photos, Iulian, Brasov city, 12 October… (>>>)

Entire traverse of Fagaras mountains main ridge

I start speaking with Sheila about a hiking tour in Romania three years ago…on 2008.ย  Her wish was to do a hiking tour which will fulfill her hiking experience around the world. Exploring Fagaras mountains

It was a tour like the tours have to be! I’m not saying that I not enjoy all my tours, because I really enjoy all my tours, but this one was special because of the tranquility of the Astird, Susanne and Holger, and not the last, because like all this summer, the weather was the right one for a hike in Fagaras mountains!

Our tour start from Ucea de Sus village, at the bottom of Fagaras mountains, with a hike of 6 1/2 hours to Podragu hut, where we arrived just with seconds before a heavy rain start, but as I said, we were lucky with the weather.ย  … (>>>)

Climbing highest peak in Romania

Greetings,ย In October 2010 I tried with Beth and Marc to climb Moldoveanu peak, on a three days hike, but the weather was not on our side. Up at Podragu hut was already snow, and too much snow for a safe climb on the top of Romania, Moldoveanu peak, 2544 m high, so we had to re-schedule the tour.

And we decide to do the tour on June 16-18, this year, and we succeeded, as you may see on the photos below. The tour start from Balea lake, with a wonderful hike to Podragu hut. Corina just opened Podragu hut with a day before we arrived there, so all was good … (>>>)
