Romanian mountains can be a destinations for short trips, hiking, walking, mountain biking, and why not, for ski touring. With a lot of experience and a good logistic, but off course, with good weather and snow conditions, we enjoyed 4 days of ski touring in Bucegi mountains, on last March. I meet Nicolas many years ago, he’s now based in France, but he still love Carpathian mountains, and with each occasion he share his love with his friends in France. Yes, I know, the French have the Alps, and many other impressive and well know mounta… (>>>)
At the beginning of our tour, Bucegi mountains were just a big desert, without sand, sorry, snow! But at least was blue sky!
Second day, the same blue sky, but we manage to find some nice powder for some long lines! Well, then we had a situation, meaning a snow storm came over Bucegi, and true winter finally arrived in Carpathian mountains. After we traverse Dudele mountains, from Bucegi to upper parts of Moeciu de Sus mountain village, in true snow storm, we had a really big surprise: at least 50-70 cm of fresh powder snow, untouched, was th… (>>>)
I did a lot of ski tours in Romanian Carpathians, but now is time to explore a new type of skiing, cross country skiing, with a very nice group of French skiers! I was surprised how light and how strong were the skis, how fast you can climb, and how hard is to ski. But all in one was fun and a nice week.
Not too much snow indeed, but for our skis, the snow was just enough and we were able to traverse Bucegi mountains, from Sinaia to Moeciu de Sus mountain village.
The second part of our trip was planed in Piatra Craiului national park, but instead skiin… (>>>)
Five friends from London came to Romania this winter for a snowshoeing trip across the hills and glens of the Bran Country. Conditions varied from cold winter to warm spring, with fresh snow or pleasant sunshine, with a little bit of mud added to mix. Fortunately no rain, but – we will say it over and over again, as it is simply very trye – there is no such thing as bad weather in the mountains. Just bad clothing.
Everyone’s photo camera was put to good use and abuse, as you can see from the gallery below. Be it a smartphone, a … (>>>)
Was a group of friends and colleagues from university, who usually enjoy skiing in The Alps, but they decide to see how are the Carpathian mountains in winter time. So, last February we enjoy a ski trip in Bucegi and Fagaras mountains, on perfect sunny days and powder snow! As always, we were almost the only skiers in both areas, and this was one of the nicest part! Bucegi mountains were great, our hosts Doina and Mircea, as always, very charming and welcoming people!
At Balea lake sky was blue, snow was as good as we wish, so the trip was ju… (>>>)
They were splitboarding in Romania last January. And they return because they enjoyed! This year weather was much better than last year, but the poor winter conditions across all Europe, was presented here too.
Anyway, we take the best out of this snow conditions, and we enjoy nice weather tours in Bucegi mountains. Then we moved in the forest around Brasov city, for a walk in spring weather conditions around the forest of Brasov. As Sander and Ela said, we are so fortunate to live in Brasov, because you can start hiking or biking directl… (>>>)
If is possible to add a title to a ski tour this has to be: Never stop exploring! Because things like this have to happen: Bill, a 71 years old Australian gentelman, based in England, never stopped enjoying ski touring around the world. We were very impressed by his ski touring trips record around the world and by his determination when came about weather conditions! On first and last day of our trip, traversing Bucegi mountains from Sinaia to Ialomita valley, weather was bad, quite bad as a English may say! But a mountain lover neve… (>>>)
They are from Zaragoza, near the Pirineos and they were first time in Romania on winter of 2012, when the weather was not on our side. Anyway, after 3 years they returned to see if we can discover now the Romanian mountains on better weather. And we did! The first plan was Bucegi and Fagaras mountains, but at the end was Bucegi mountains and a speed climbing tour on Poiana Brasov ski resort, on a heavy snowing day! This time Bucegi mountains were great and we enjoyed everything, snow, sun, weather conditions and not the last the delicious foo… (>>>)
During a winter tour, weather can bring you to heaven or not! Something like this was happening during our splitboard trip in Bucegi mountains, at the end of February, when weather was not as good as we expected! We did our best, we climbed Tataru peak in one of the days when was worth to go out, but the most beautiful day was the last one, when we get 30 cm of fresh snow, and we enjoyed our way back to Sinaia! Enjoy the photos, Iulian, March 2015
