More and more Asian tourists are coming to Romania, you see them roaming the historical cities of Brasov and Sibiu, or queuing for a visit at Bran Castle or Peles Castle. Up the mountains, however, it’s a rather different story. Or at least it was, till this summer, when a consistent group of Japanese hikers came to Romania for a longer tour, including the historical milestones mentioned above, but also trekking in Bucegi and Fagaras Mountains.
It was our job and honor to guide the group up to the highest point of Romania, on Moldov… (>>>)
We have planned with our Italian friends a week-long traverse of the Southern Carpathians in July 2018, starting in Sinaia, across Bucegi, than along the main section of the Fagaras ridge, from Sambata to Negoiu.
After a good start in Bucegi mountains, the weather turned for the bad when we moved to Fagaras mountains. Instead of the main ridge traverse, we opted for some easier treks in the lower altitudes, at Negoiu and Barcaciu, but also an attempt towards Moldoveanu Peak via Turnuri and Podragu. We may not have the joy of breathing … (>>>)
Are 20 years since I organize outdoor journeys in Romanian mountains and I can remember most of my guests. And for sure I’ll remember the Australian wombats, Geoff, Max and Colin, and of course I Kate.
The original tour starts in Brasov and end almost in Sibiu, over 12 days of hiking in seven mountain ranges in South Carpathian mountain in Romania, kind of Haute route in Romania. But because of a very wet period in July, we had to reorganize our tour, but even despite the bad and wet weather, we succeed to traverse Piatra Mare mountain rang… (>>>)
As usual, weather is weather, and in September sometime plans has to be changed because of HER. But based on our 20 years’ experience in organising hiking tours in Romanian mountains, weather is not an issue. The plan was to hike in Fagaras mountains, climbing Moldoveanu peak in two days hike, but just with few days before our trip, the first serious snow of this season came and we had to change our plans, because hiking has to be fun, not only climbing peaks! So, we moved to Bucegi mountains, where we had also snow, but a much friendly one. … (>>>)
Our hike was short, but challenging. Meaning that in one day we have to climb Moldoveanu peak, the highest one in Romanian mountains and to arrive to Balea Lake on Transfagarasean highway. Plan was simple, on first day we climb Moldoveanu peak and sleep at Podragu hut, next day we hike from Podragu to Balea Lake.
And this we did, on a loooong first day hiking, 9 1/2 hours, climbing 1926 meters during 22 km. Starting early morning from Ucea de Sus village, is a plus, because the first part of the day is on low morning temperatures. By climbin… (>>>)
Well, well, well the three ladies from Hong Kong spent a second consecutive summer holiday in Romania, and this time they brought Clara too.
As last year holiday, this one was a share between exploring Romanian cuisine and nature, but on different regions of the country. And like this we realized that Romania is quite big, and you can spend many holidays around.
We started with some boats trip and birdwatching in Danube Delta, exploring almost all the Delta from Sfantu Gheorghe to Letea forest, and surroundings, with good accommodati… (>>>)
From time to time, some Irish ramblers go abroad, and they are hungry to discover new destinations. Few years ago, Martin and his friends landed in Carpathian mountains for a tour, together with another 10 friends.
This July Mary and her friends came to Romania to enjoy a week walking on Bran county high hills and Bucegi mountains. They are used to walk almost every weekend in Ireland, under different weather conditions, so our beautiful weather was as a gift for them!
We enjoy the beautiful walking days on the high hills of Bran county an… (>>>)
In brief, it was like this: we all enjoyed a two week tour in Romania, yes in Romania, meaning that we explored half of the country, driving, walking and tasting delicious food!
In detail, we were in Bucharest, Sinaia, Bucegi mountains, Simon mountain village, Brasov city, Fagaras mountains, Balea Lake, Ucea de Sus village, Sibiu, Sighisoara, Gura Humorului and painted monasteries from that area and finally back to Bucharest.
It was a tour with all the necessary ingredients, sun, some rain, lovely landscapes, good jokes and most im… (>>>)
When a Australian couple want to go home, they still travel. This was doing Zac and his friends, at the end of three years stay in UK. They were going home travelling from country to country, and they stop for few days hiking in Bucegi mountains, South East of Transylvania.
Weather was fantastic, and our traverse of Bucegi was done smoothly and dry!
Enjoy the photos,
Iulian, Sept 2016
