From time to time, some Italian mountain clubs are comin to Romania for a trip. I think they want to compare the Carpathian mountains with the Dolomiti or The Alps, and for most of them, the surprise is a lovely one!
This summer, a group of walkers from CAI Mirano Venetia, came one week tour, in middle of July, one of the hottest months from summer of 2016. We enjoyed good weather in Bucegi, Piatra Craiului national park and the high hills of Rucar Bran pass, but also the delicious food from our hosts in the mountains.
We hiked the hills and mead… (>>>)
Was the first snow from this year, but we were not scared about it. We were hiking in Bucegi mountains and Piatra Craiului national park, on snow, sun and beautiful weather.
They came from Luxembourg, being hiking on other different places before this trip. And, as almost always, Mike, Dan and their friends were surprised by our mountains, and not by our food. We were welcomed by Mircea and Doina Opris in Bucegi mountains, and by Alina from Simon mountains village.
Our trips went smooth and calm, enjoying the views, the landscape and all … (>>>)
Betty and Joël came for a long weekend hike and a short visit of Bucharest city. The right places for this type of tour are Bucegi natural park and the high hills of Bran county.
We started our tour with a warm up hike on the Western part of Bucegi mountains, then crossed over to Moeciu de Sus, ending in the picturesque mountain village of Simon. It was the best time of the year to hike, with the right weather conditions and this was something which motivated us to keep on hiking and enjoying the beautiful nature!
Enjoy the photos,

Hiking with Avril and Nina, what a wonderful tour!
I met Avril 8 years ago, on a strong winter, when we walked up to Curmatura hut in Piatra Craiului national park. This year, together with Nina, she came to see how our mountains look in the summer time! As you can clearly see in the photos, they look very well!
We hiked in the Bucegi mountains, Bran county and it’s high hills. We also went to Magura, the fairy tale village from our winter trip that Avril remembered vividly; the snow had been so high that the bread was transported by a hors… (>>>)
Together with Jon and Chris, I backpacked half of Fagaras mountains ridge on one of the wettest period of 2016, even if was July.
Chris came from the UK especially for this tour, Jon works in Bucharest and does a lot of runs in the Romanian mountains, but the Fagaras mountains are special mountains, which require a lot of knowledge and skill. In order for both of them to enjoy this challenging hike, we hiked together.
As usual, we started from the East Side, from Piatra Craiului national park. After a warm evening at 7 Crai in Plaiul Foii, we s… (>>>)
It was Angus’s turn to organize a hiking trip for his friends in 2016, and following a tradition of exploring less popular destinations, he opted for a trip to Romania to hike up the highest peak in Fagaras mountains. Up till now they went in self-guided tours, but going for a guided tour in the Romanian Alps proved to be a really great idea. The weather turned quite bad up at more than 2000m, with low temperatures, first snow of the year and disturbing winds.
The initial plan, going from Sambata all the way to Balea Lac, had to be abando… (>>>)
How can i put it on paper when I don’t even find the words for it? It was a tour that I was little worrying about at the beginning but when it started it was everything else but worries. Beautiful trails, people with a lot of joy in hearts and open for everything were a perfect match to have a great experience. This way we succeed really to make the best of our 4 days Trail Running tour. Looking back at these days I still feel the joy and happiness to have run in such a special company, on our home trails.
Thinking more about it, it came. Flow … (>>>)
There is a good number of people that come to Romania not because they were lured in by the famous landscape beauty, the gorgeous mountains or the any other world renown tourist attractions. The reasoning is pretty mundane: a business trip, a short or long term contract with a locally based company, a friend’s wedding, etc. Most often than not, people come back to Romania to trace back family roots, to discover the world were their parents or ancestors came into being and developed as individuals, before going to discover and con… (>>>)
They came from California to visit her family in Berlin. And because 10 years ago, if I remember well, I was hiking with some of their friends, Tanja and her family decide to spent a week hiking in Romania.
Even if our plans were changed by the weather conditions, we were lucky enough where we hiked in Bucegi mountains and in Fagaras mountains.
The kids were fantastic! They enjoy every single moments of their holiday, even playing on rain!
And sure, we stayed one night in Ucea de Sus village, my grandmother village, on the 1892 renovated hou… (>>>)
Stuart and Liam flew to Romania on an extended weekend to hike the Carpathians, set foot on the highest peak and experience some of authentic rural lifestyle. Sounds like a simple plan, and in many way it was, but most of the times the great satisfactions come out of really simple things.
Iulian’s grandma house in Ucea de Sus village proved to be the ideal starting point to the mountain adventure. Proper traditional food (“carne și cârnați la borcan”, good luck finding that in any traditional Romanian restauran… (>>>)
